Character Compendium#
This page organizes Resident Evil 4 Remake’s main characters and enemy makeup. Only verified background information is included; the older version’s empty fields, misplaced timelines, and unsourced quotes have all been removed. Boss fight tactics live on the Bosses page and are not repeated here.
Main Characters#
Leon S. Kennedy#
Identity: a US government agent dispatched directly under the president.
Mission in this game: rescue the kidnapped president’s daughter, Ashley Graham, deep in a remote Spanish village. After the Raccoon City incident, Leon had become a government-direct agent, and this mission was executed on the president’s personal commission.
Gameplay role: the playable protagonist throughout. Weapon tuning, physical attacks, and knife counters all revolve around him, with several variants in Mercenaries (see the Mercenaries page).
Ashley Graham#
Identity: the daughter of the President of the United States.
Event line: she was kidnapped first and taken to the Spanish village, and only afterward implanted with the parasite — the kidnappers used her to extort the US government. Old guides often reverse this timeline (“implanted first, then kidnapped”); this page states the verified order.
Remake change: she is no longer a pure escort target — the mid-game contains an independent Ashley stealth chapter where you directly control her while evading enemies.
Commands while she accompanies you:
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
| Follow | she sticks with Leon; during combat she needs to be placed somewhere safe |
| Wait | she stays put — ideal for leaving her in a safe position before a fight starts |
The protection criteria are detailed on the Tips Guide page: never bring her into a combat zone before the fight begins.
Luis Sera#
Identity: a researcher entangled in Los Illuminados’ parasite research.
Role in this game: a character who fights alongside Leon repeatedly through the run and provides key help. The remake greatly expands his role, making him far more three-dimensional than the original; finer background details are not itemized here for now — the old version’s claim that he “was once a researcher of the Salazar family” lacked a source and has been deleted.
Other appearances: he is one of the playable Mercenaries characters, with a starting loadout of the Red9 and an SR M1903 fitted with a biosensor scope.
Ingrid Hunnigan#
Identity: Leon’s handler. Through the mission she provides remote intelligence support via communications equipment — the information window between the player and the mission’s background.
Merchant#
Identity: the mysterious peddler who appears everywhere selling weapons and services — a franchise signature character.
Six services:
| Service | Notes |
|---|---|
| Selling weapons | sells in-story weapons and special weapons |
| Buying | purchases weapons and treasures for pesetas |
| Tuning upgrades | strengthens weapons with pesetas, including exclusive tuning |
| Selling items | ammo, healing items, attaché case upgrades, and more |
| Spinel exchange | trades spinels for exclusive tuning tickets, treasure maps, parts, and more |
| Knife repair | restores knife durability |
The Merchant’s detailed prices and exchange pool are on the Equipment and Merchant page.
The Boss Camp: Los Illuminados’ Four Lords#
Los Illuminados is the cult entrenched in the village and castle; its four bosses, in main-story order:
| Character | Identity | Chapters |
|---|---|---|
| Bitores Méndez | the village’s chief; end-of-Chapter-6 boss fight | Village |
| Ramón Salazar | the castle lord; end-of-Chapter-12 boss fight | Castle |
| Jack Krauser | end-of-Chapter-11 knife duel and Chapter-14 mutated final fight | Castle and Island |
| Osmund Saddler | the mastermind; Chapter-16 final fight | Island |
The cult controls its followers with the parasite, and kidnapping Ashley was precisely to extort the US government. Each boss’s weak-point type and tactics are on the Bosses page.
Enemy Compendium (Qualitative)#
| Enemy | Area | How to handle |
|---|---|---|
| Villagers | Village | mostly farm-tool melee; headshot stagger into a physical attack saves the most ammo |
| Cultists | Castle | include shield-bearers and ranged types; circle behind or shoot the legs of shield carriers, pick off ranged ones first |
| Soldiers | Island | firearms-equipped, long engagement distances; use cover and sniping |
| Dr. Salvador | from Chapter 1 | chainsaw melee is high-threat; keep distance and use explosives |
| El Gigante | Chapter 4 onward | weak point is the back parasite |
| Garrador | Chapter 7 | castle-area large enemy |
| Iron Maiden | Island | a Regenerator-family mutant; thermal scope into internal parasites |
| Regenerador | Island | must use the thermal scope to find and destroy all internal parasites |
| Verdugo | Chapter 10 | freeze with liquid nitrogen valves, then focus fire |
This table records only area placement and qualitative thinking; per-enemy HP, ammo consumption, and similar figures have no reliable source and are not written.
