Boss Guides#
This page organizes every main-story boss fight across Resident Evil 4 Remake’s 16 chapters, focusing on correct chapter placement and mechanic-level counterplay. Old guides online contain many placement errors (putting the lake lord in Chapter 4, or the double chainsaw sisters in Chapter 1); this page has corrected them all per verified findings. Numeric data (HP, damage, ammo consumption) has no reliable source and is not collected on this page.
Main-Story Boss List#
| Chapter | Boss | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 1 | Dr. Salvador, Brute | the village area’s first large enemies |
| End of Chapter 3 | Del Lago | lake boat fight |
| End of Chapter 4 | El Gigante | the Merchant sells the rocket launcher after it falls |
| Chapter 5 | Colmillos | optional fight |
| Chapter 6 | the chainsaw sisters, Chief Bitores Méndez | village area finale |
| Chapter 7 | Garrador | after entering the castle |
| Chapter 8 | Doppelsoldner | castle area |
| Chapter 10 | Verdugo, plus the optional Merciless Knight | castle underground |
| Chapter 11 | double El Gigantes, Krauser knife duel | two hard fights in one chapter |
| End of Chapter 12 | Ramón Salazar | castle area finale |
| Chapter 13 | Iron Maiden first encounter | island area begins |
| Chapter 14 | mutated Jack Krauser | rewards the Combat Knife on victory |
| Chapter 16 | Osmund Saddler | final boss |
Once you enter the next area there is no going back: entering the castle in Chapter 7 locks you out of the village, and landing on the island in Chapter 13 locks you out of the castle. Watch your chapter progress when reloading after a boss defeat.
Main-Story Boss Tactics#
Dr. Salvador and the Brute (Chapter 1)#
Chapter 1’s chainsaw enemy is a single Dr. Salvador, not the double chainsaw sisters — many old guides misplace the Chapter 6 sisters here. Both the chainsaw man and the Brute are close-range high-threat targets: keep distance, use explosives and terrain cover, and avoid being ground down by consecutive melee. Knife counters work on ordinary melee attacks; against chainsaw-type weapons, open distance and attack from range instead. Stealth takedowns don’t work on large enemies — don’t waste positioning time.
Del Lago (End of Chapter 3)#
A boat fight. Attack with the harpoon; its charges and tail sweeps need lateral dodging while you keep the boat moving. This fight corresponds to the hidden achievement Harpoon Hurler. After beating Del Lago, the Merchant in Chapter 4 sells the rocket launcher (80,000 pesetas).
El Gigante (End of Chapter 4)#
Its weak-point type is the back parasite: after causing a stagger or imbalance, climb its back and attack the parasite for heavy damage. Headshots and shotgun blasts help create damage windows. Use the arena’s explosives.
Colmillos (Chapter 5)#
Large hounds infected by parasites — an optional fight: bypass it when the route allows, saving ammo and healing resources.
The Double Chainsaw Sisters (Chapter 6)#
Two enemies wielding chainsaws at once — one of the game’s most famous siege fights. The key is never letting both get close simultaneously: use houses, windows, and obstacles to split their routes, and stagger them one at a time to deal damage. Chainsaw attacks deal extreme damage; use knife counters cautiously and prioritize keeping distance.
Chief Bitores Méndez (End of Chapter 6)#
The village area’s closing fight. The battle has two form phases: the human form attacks mainly with melee weapons, while the mutated form grows dramatically in size and reach. The universal approach is orbiting the arena, creating staggers, and then focusing fire. The fight area has usable environmental elements.
Garrador (Chapter 7)#
A castle-area large enemy. Its exclusive weak point and numeric details are not catalogued on this site, and we don’t write unverified tactics; before the fight, confirm your ammo and healing reserves, and when space is tight, clear regular enemies before handling it.
Doppelsoldner (Chapter 8)#
A giant encased in heavy armor; ordinary guns do limited damage against the plating. Follow the El Gigante mechanic template: find windows when the weak point is exposed and burst it down. The exact weak-point type defers to the in-game hitboxes.
Verdugo (Chapter 10)#
The castle underground’s pursuer boss. Verified mechanic: the arena holds liquid nitrogen valves — freezing the Verdugo staggers it and exposes its weak point, the best damage window; valves are limited, so deal as much damage as you can before they run out. This fight can also be avoided. The same chapter holds the optional Merciless Knight fight.
Double El Gigantes (Chapter 11)#
Two El Gigantes at once, with mechanics identical to Chapter 4’s (back parasite weak point); the difficulty is handling both targets plus minions. Prioritize explosives and arena elements to create staggers, and take them one by one.
Krauser Knife Duel (End of Chapter 11)#
The end of Chapter 11 is the first clash with Jack Krauser — a pure knife duel: you must answer his melee combos with knife counters, then punish after successful parries. This is the run’s most demanding knife-counter check; repair your knife’s durability to full beforehand.
Salazar (End of Chapter 12)#
The castle area’s closing fight; weak-point type is the eyes. Salazar’s body merges with his mount — shoot the eyes to create staggers, then deal damage. The achievements No Thanks Bro! (silver) and You Talk Too Much! (bronze) both tie to this fight: the former for defeating Salazar, the latter for throwing a grenade into his mouth.
Iron Maiden (Chapter 13)#
A Regenerator-family mutant first met on the island; counter it the way you counter Regenerators: use the thermal scope to locate the internal parasites and destroy every one of them. It reappears in later areas.
Mutated Jack Krauser (Chapter 14)#
The final-form fight. Rewards the Combat Knife on victory. Suppress the ranged phase with precise shooting; the knife counter remains the core answer in the melee phase; the exact phase division defers to the in-game flow.
Saddler (Chapter 16)#
The final boss; weak-point type is the eyes: the eyes exposed across his body are the primary targets, and destroying them creates staggers. After the fight, escape by jet ski and the main story concludes.
Separate Ways Bosses#
The Separate Ways DLC’s bosses by chapter (verified):
| Chapter | Boss | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chapters 1–2 and 3 | U-3 | repeated harasser fights in the early going |
| Chapter 3 | El Gigante | a main-story-style Gigante fight |
| Chapter 5 | Pesanta | the black-robed figure’s true form; the expansion’s main duel |
| Chapter 6 | Martínico | an invincible pursuer; it cannot be killed — an escape fight |
| Chapter 7 | Saddler | the DLC’s closing fight |
Note that old guides placing “U-3 in Chapter 5” and “Pesanta in Chapter 7” are misaligned; the correct placement is the table above. Ada’s exclusive firepower is the Blast Crossbow and similar weapons — “Smasher” is not an in-game weapon name.
Mechanic-Level Tactics Summary#
