Beginner’s Guide#

This guide is for Rovers just waking up in Wuthering Waves. It covers only the things that genuinely shape early progress: main-story progression, Union Level unlock pacing, how to spend stamina, and who gets your first resources.

The Opening Route#

The game opens with the Rover awakening in a lab — just follow the main quest. The story doubles as the spine of feature unlocks:

  • Core systems (combat, leveling, echoes) open up chapter by chapter with the story.
  • Convene (gacha) and other features unlock gradually through the story and Union Levels — no hunting required.
  • Material domains carry Union Level gates, detailed below.

The core early principle: main story first. Only when the story stalls do you detour into side quests and exploration — don’t hoard locked features at low Union Levels.

Don’t agonize over your roster, either. The game has five weapon types (Broadblade, Sword, Pistols, Gauntlets, Rectifier) and six elements (Fusion, Glacio, Aero, Electro, Spectro, Havoc), and the free launch Resonators already cover most of the matrix. The Rover starts as Spectro with a Havoc form unlocking later in the story; build the free characters around their intended weapons — there is no “wrong pick that ruins the account.”

Union Level Pacing#

Union Level (the account growth level) gates most content. Key checkpoints:

Union Level Unlocks Cost per Run
1 Simulation domain (skill materials) 40 Waveplates
10 Boss rush 60 Waveplates
15 Tacet Discord (weekly) and Tower of Adversity 60 Waveplates / free
19 Echo-clearing activity 60 Waveplates
20 Elemental domain (weapon and skill materials) 40 Waveplates

Union Level also advances the SOL3 Phase (world difficulty) roughly every 10 levels, with promotion quests at Union 20, 40, and 60 — each promotion raises world difficulty and drops in step. The phase system is on the World Exploration page.

One more point: the permanent domains above (simulation, boss rush, elemental, echo-clearing) are all long-term open once unlocked — no weekday rotation, farm whatever you need whenever. The only count-capped activity is the weekly Tacet Discord, covered in the stamina section below.

The most common pacing mistake: spending Waveplates on low-tier domains too early. Restrain the farming itch before Union 15 and let story progress supply experience and materials naturally.

Stamina (Waveplates) Basics#

  • Waveplate cap is 240, regenerating 1 every 6 minutes — about 24 hours for a full bar.
  • Since version 1.2, overflow converts into a storable crystallized resource, so a forgotten day isn’t a total loss.
  • 1 Crystal Solvent restores 60 Waveplates — stockpile it early for weekly runs or urgent ascension pushes.

Memorize the Tacet Discord rule: only 3 reward counts per week at 60 Waveplates each, dropping weekly-exclusive high-tier skill materials. Counts refresh weekly with no rollover, so clearing the weekly outranks ordinary domains — Waveplates spent elsewhere can be earned back, but an expired weekly count is gone forever.

First spending priority: complete your main character’s ascension and skill materials. Farm whatever you’re missing; domain selection lives on the Material Domains page.

Convene Basics: Your First Pulls#

The gacha is called Convene; 160 Astrite buys one pull. Two things matter early:

1. The Beginner Convene Banner#

Item Rule
Pull cap 50 pulls, closes when full
Discount 20% off (a 10-pull costs the price of 8 vouchers)
Guarantee A standard five-star within the 50 pulls

The guaranteed pool is the five standard five-stars: Verina (Spectro/Rectifier), Jianxin (Aero/Gauntlets), Calcharo (Electro/Broadblade), Encore (Fusion/Rectifier), Lingyang (Glacio/Gauntlets). Any result is a win — all five stay useful long-term.

2. Astrite Planning#

  • 5-star base rate is 0.8%, 1.8% consolidated with pity, hard pity at 80.
  • The limited character banner runs a 50/50: if your first five-star loses to a standard character, the next five-star is guaranteed to be the featured one.
  • Community math says the worst case costs 160 pulls to secure the featured character — budget Astrite against that number.
  • A 4-star or better is guaranteed every 10 pulls; the beginner banner naturally builds your 4-star bench.
  • Rates rise noticeably from about pull 66 (soft pity) — most five-stars arrive before the 80 hard pity.
  • The weapon event banner has no 50/50 — the 5-star is always the featured weapon. Skip it entirely while Astrite is tight.

Full probability and banner rules are on the FAQ page; of the five banner types, beginners only need the beginner and character-event banners.

Building Your First Team#

The free Resonators (Yangyang, Chixia, and friends) carry all early content:

  1. Pick one main DPS (a free character or your beginner-banner five-star both work).
  2. Add two utility slots to complete the three-person rotation.
  3. Invest only in these three — no even spreading.

Team frameworks and set directions are on the Team Comps & Builds page; early echoes only need their 2-piece bonuses — don’t chase substats yet.

One low-cost principle: the game has no elemental weakness or reaction system. The only rule is same-element resistance — just aim your main DPS at enemies of a different element. No counter charts to memorize.

For first 2-piece bonuses, these three sets are the friendliest:

Sonata Set 2-Piece Best Slot
Lingering Tunes Attack +10% Main DPS
Moonlit Clouds Energy Regen +10% Sub-DPS
Rejuvenating Glow Healing +10% Healer

Echo loadouts are also bounded by the cost budget: 8 points initially, the full 12 (standard 4+3+3+1+1) unlocking at Data Bank level 9. On a tight budget, give high-cost echoes to the main DPS and fill utility slots with cheap pieces; full set and substat rules are on the Echo System page.

Your First Few Days#

Window Focus
Day 1 Main story + fill the 50-pull beginner banner
Days 2–3 Keep pushing story, sprint Union Level 10–15
Union 15 hit First Tacet Discord clears and Tower of Adversity attempt
Day 4 on Farm domains by gap, assemble 2-piece echo sets

Each login, run “dailies → weekly counts → ascension material gaps” in that order and Waveplates rarely go to waste. More efficiency technique is on the Tips & Tricks page.

After Union 15: Two New Modes, Two Priorities#

The Tacet Discord and Tower of Adversity both unlock at Union 15 but serve different masters:

  • Tacet Discord: 3 weekly reward counts at 60 Waveplates each, 6 bosses — Scar, Bell-Borne Geochelone, Dreamless, Jué, Hecate, Threnodian: Leviathan. Weekly bosses drop Calamity echoes and high-tier skill materials; clearing the weekly counts is a hard priority.
  • Tower of Adversity: a free permanent tower, split into Stable, Experimental, Overdrive, and Hazard zones. The first three zones’ rewards are one-time — take whatever floors you can reach now; the Hazard zone resets about every 28 days and is a steady Astrite source within each version.

Don’t force full Tower clears as a beginner: bank the three zones’ one-time rewards first, and wait until your team and echo sets are finished before pushing Hazard. The Tower’s Vigor mechanics and zone details are on the Endgame page; per-boss fight notes on the Boss Guide page.

One Reminder#

Beginners don’t need a pile of guides — every unlock in Wuthering Waves is linear: story advances, features open. Only two things reward early study: the stamina rules (above) and the pity system (so your Astrite lands at the right moment). Everything else, learn by playing.
