Tenebris Somnia FAQ#
The questions players have asked most since Tenebris Somnia launched are collected and answered here. Every answer reflects official information verified as of 2026-10-18; anything not yet announced is labeled “not announced” as-is, with no guesswork.
Language and Localization#
Does the game have Chinese?#
No. The official language lineup is English, Spanish (Spain and Latin America versions), Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese, each with full interface, voiceover, and subtitle support — no Chinese anywhere. As of this writing the developer has announced no plans to add Chinese down the road, so don’t buy on the assumption that it will show up later. See the language support and Chinese players guide for how to cope.
Can I play without knowing English?#
Only barely. This is a puzzle-driven game, and text carries both story and clue information. That said, the live-action cutscenes deliver narrative through human performances that don’t depend on language, and a sizable share of puzzle clues are numbers and symbols — with translation tools you can get through it, but the experience will suffer. Do a quick self-assessment of your threshold first (see the proficiency table on the language guide page).
Pricing and Platforms#
How much does it cost?#
The base price is $24.99; during the launch window there is a 20% discount, bringing it to $19.99. Players who own FAITH: The Unholy Trinity can stack an extra discount on top of the launch discount (check the store page for the exact amount). The publisher has also promised more aggressive regional pricing in Latin America and other regions. For RMB pricing, go by the live figure on your regional store page. More in the release info and launch discount overview.
Which platforms is it on?#
PC (both Steam and GOG), PS5, Xbox Series X|S (with Xbox Play Anywhere), Switch, and Switch 2. A PS4 version is the subject of conflicting media reports and remains unconfirmed — some outlets say PS4 is included, but the Steam page and most coverage do not list it, so PS4 players should go by official announcements. More in the platform list and buying advice.
Is there a physical edition?#
Some media report a physical edition published by Lost in Cult, but that is single-source information and not fully confirmed through official channels. If you want a physical copy, wait for a clear official announcement before deciding.
Which version is the best deal?#
It depends on your device mix: players with both an Xbox console and a Windows PC should pick the Xbox version (Xbox Play Anywhere means one purchase, two copies); Steam Deck owners should go straight to the Steam version (Verified); everyone else should pick by ecosystem and library habits. Pricing is identical on every platform.
Content and Gameplay#
Is there multiplayer?#
No. This is a strictly single-player game (official tag: Singleplayer), and no source mentions any multiplayer or online content. If you want co-op horror, our site also covers Phasmophobia.
How long is the game?#
No official playtime figures exist. Indirect signals worth weighing: a development cycle of roughly four years, and the puzzle-driven, story-first genre profile — for real numbers, wait for community completion reports. This page will be updated.
How many endings are there? Any branching?#
The official word on the number of endings and branching conditions is still out. We won’t speculate — that content will be added to the story background and protagonist Julia page once officially disclosed or thoroughly verified by the community.
Is it scary? What kind of scary is it?#
Yes, but not jump-scare bombardment. The official tags are “atmospheric horror” plus “psychological horror” — sustained pressure, low intensity over long stretches, and the unease of not being able to tell dream from reality. Its most distinctive scare is the medium switch: pixel gameplay can cut into live-action footage at any moment, and those cutscenes can drop you straight into an encounter. If your tolerance is limited, daytime play at low volume works fine too (a handheld or small screen lowers the impact further). More in the nightmare setting and psychological horror themes guide.
If it’s a pixel game, are the PC requirements high?#
No — they’re remarkably low: Windows 10 64-bit, a 2.4GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and a GPU with 4GB of VRAM. Nearly every mainstream machine from the past decade clears that bar. More in the PC requirements and Steam Deck experience guide.
Can I play it on Steam Deck?#
Yes, and at the highest tier — Steam Deck Verified. Interface, input, and performance have all passed the verification standards, so handheld players can buy with confidence.
Is there a free trial?#
Yes. A free demo is up on both Steam and GOG, letting you experience the contrast between pixel gameplay and live-action cutscenes — it’s the single best tool for judging “is this for me,” and we recommend it as a must before buying. More in the free demo guide.
How do you actually fight? Is there an enemy compendium?#
The official enemy and boss roster, weapon list, and area structure have not been published, and this site will not fabricate them. What the section offers now is system-level strategy built on the verified framework (evasion first, resource management, puzzle-solving methods, and more); an enemy-level compendium will be added once official materials or thorough community verification are in. Start with the beginner guide and opening survival rules.
Background and Quality#
Where does this game come from?#
An Argentine crew: director Andrés Borghi (a filmmaker and creator of The Black Heart) co-developed it with Saibot Studios (the Hellbound team), retro-horror luminary Airdorf (creator of FAITH) serves as executive producer, and the publisher is New Blood Interactive (the outfit behind DUSK and Blood West). Development took roughly four years; the award track record is in the awards and festival footprint page.
Are the live-action scenes really filmed? Any CGI?#
Really filmed — shot by an award-winning Argentine film crew, with monsters realized through practical effects prosthetics (face casts taken from actors, makeup built and applied, hours in the chair each time) rather than a CGI route. The publisher has also stated explicitly that the entire production used no generative AI (hand-drawn pixels, human composers, human translators). Behind-the-scenes detail in the live-action production and practical effects guide.
How has it been received since launch?#
Per launch coverage, Steam user reviews sit at “Very Positive” — note that this is the early post-launch state while the review count is still growing, so treat the store page as the live figure.
