Walkthrough#
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s “campaign” consists of two parts: a mission-based linear campaign (9 missions / 3 planets / ~10-12 hours) and the post-clear Operations endgame loop. There is no open world, no side quests, no vendors, no fast travel, no multiple endings, no NG+, no “second playthrough” system, and no “four playthroughs” — this page gives the progression route per the game’s real structure.
Phase 1: The Campaign (9 Missions / 3 Planets)#
The Kadaku Stretch (Missions 1-3)#
| Mission |
Progression Notes |
| Rain of Terror |
The tutorial, non-replayable — block, dodge, Gun Strike, and Execution are all introduced here; drill them before advancing |
| Skyfire |
The Kadaku jungle fighting continues; first major spike in swarm density |
| Severance |
Closes the Kadaku stretch and resets the rhythm for Avarax’s urban warfare |
- Co-op supports up to 3 players, unlocked after the tutorial, cross-platform; the other two players take Chairon and Gadriel.
- The tutorial cannot be replayed — missed guidance will not return; solo players get AI teammates filling in.
The Avarax Stretch (Missions 4-6)#
| Mission |
Progression Notes |
| Machinus Divinitus |
The Avarax hive city fighting begins; the Adeptus Mechanicus storyline unfolds |
| Servant of the Machine |
Vertical city terrain gives ranged and grapple-style skills more room |
| Voidsong |
Closes Avarax; the Thousand Sons threat comes into focus |
- Vertical city terrain abounds; a good share of the 35 Dataslates sit along Avarax’s side paths and next to compartments — sweep for them as you push the story.
- Thousand Sons units appear from this stretch; melee exchanges step up noticeably.
The Demerium Stretch (Missions 7-9, the Finale)#
| Mission |
Progression Notes |
| Dawn’s Descent |
The finale stretch begins |
| Bellum Sempiternus |
The finale’s midpoint |
| Duty Without End |
The campaign’s end — the final boss fight |
- The last three missions must be completed back-to-back — sort your class, weapon rarity, and grenade loadout before entering.
- The final boss is Imurah, a Thousand Sons sorcerous lord; boss phase details defer to in-game behavior — this site speculates none of it.
- No New Game+ after the credits — replaying the story means starting a fresh save.
Phase 2: The Operations Endgame Loop#
After the credits, long-term play shifts to Operations — a PvE loop of 13 repeatable missions across 6 threat levels.
The Loop’s Three Objectives#
| Objective |
Resource/Condition |
Notes |
| Class leveling |
EXP (cap 25, tracked independently) |
Per-run payout + Gene-Seed’s 30% bonus + quick-match’s 20% bonus |
| Weapon tiering |
Armoury Data |
Common → Master-Crafted → Artificer → Relic |
| Threat climbing |
Consistent clear ability |
Ruthless applies armor -20%; Lethal and Absolute are the top-end challenges |
Per-Run Checklist#
- Before the mission: confirm complementary classes in the squad (one of each); check main-weapon rarity and grenade loadout.
- During the mission: keep the execute-to-armor rhythm in trash packs; assign Gene-Seed pickups to the teammate in the safest position.
- Before extraction: confirm who’s carrying the Gene-Seed — extraction pays a bonus 30% XP, and it drops if the carrier dies.
- After the payout: invest in your main weapon; weapon XP accrues per weapon.
The Long-Term Route#
- Stage one: one class from level 1 to 25, talent tree complete.
- Stage two: consistent Ruthless clears (the armor -20% hard gate), unlocking the Valour Crest achievement.
- Stage three: climb Lethal and Absolute while collecting every execution (The Art of Dismemberment requires 50 types).
- Siege Mode as a high-intensity palate cleanser: 5 waves per zone across 3 zones, then endless waves — since Patch 13, a Hive Tyrant and Mutalith Vortex Beast anchor the final waves.
Phase 3: PvP and Collection Close-Out#
- Eternal War’s 6v6 runs independently of PvE progression; all weapons are level 1 available since Patch 14 — jump in anytime.
- Campaign collectibles (35 Dataslates) can be finished via mission replay after the credits — except the non-replayable tutorial.
- The PvP-side long-term achievements (Dominator, Unwavering Faith, Tactical Genius, etc.) are in the Achievements guide.
Correction of Outdated Material#
The following old-guide content contradicts the game’s actual structure and is fully retired:
- “Open-world exploration, side quests, vendors, fast travel” — this is a mission-based linear campaign; none of these systems exist;
- “Multiple endings / NG+ / four playthroughs” — a single timeline, no New Game+;
- “A 6-chapter structure (Fall of Heaven / Machine Spirit / trials, etc.)” — the correct structure is 9 missions / 3 planets, mission names above;
- Claims about “mod support” are unverified and not adopted.
