1. Playable Characters Overview#
Falcom’s English official site (trails2ndchapter.com) lists 8 playable characters on its Party Members page — currently the only playable roster backed by an official page:
| Official English Name | Common Full Name | Role and Traits (based on general sources and the official site) |
|---|---|---|
| Estelle | Estelle Bright | The protagonist of this entry, a bracer; her weapon is a staff |
| Joshua | Joshua Bright | Estelle’s adopted brother, a high-speed dual-blade fighter; absent from the party for long stretches of the story |
| Scherazard | Scherazard Harvey | Senior bracer companion |
| Olivier | Olivier Lenheim | Senior bracer companion |
| Kloe | Kloe Rinz | Senior bracer companion |
| Agate | Agate Crosner | Senior bracer companion |
| Tita | Tita Russell | Senior bracer companion |
| Zin | Zin Vathek | Senior bracer companion |
One caveat: the 8 names above reflect the official site’s disclosure. Official promotion separately says that “popular characters will join as playable companions” — which characters that covers, and in which chapters they join, is left to the game itself; this site makes no claims either way.
For the six senior companions other than the two protagonists, this page only groups them by their official positioning. Their growth stats and joining chapters have not been published in detail, so this site will not fill in numbers. For viable party examples at the team-building level (such as the S-tier combination recommended by guide sites), see Advanced Combat and Linking.
2. The Two Protagonists#
Estelle#
The protagonist and the story’s point of view. On the night of the Queen’s birthday celebration at the end of the previous game’s remake, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, Joshua left — and Estelle set out on a journey to get her companions back and take on the society Ouroboros. She is also the character players build around from the very start: her weapon is a staff, and her build ideas are covered in Estelle Build Guide. Players who carry over clear data from the previous game also receive the linked costume “Classic Style SC [Estelle]”.
For what it’s worth, the tier discussion on the guide site geekyinc.com puts Estelle, Kloe, and Agate in the same recommended S-tier combination — all three are Party Members published on the official site, and none of them are affected by story-driven departures, which keeps the default party core stable even while Joshua is gone. As this entry’s point-of-view protagonist, her journey spans 10 chapters from prologue to finale; the detailed combination analysis is in Advanced Combat and Linking.
Joshua#
Estelle’s adopted brother, a high-speed dual-blade fighter. The key thing to know is that he leaves the party for long stretches of the story — one of the core restrictions on party building in this entry, and any party plan has to account for his absence. The full analysis is in Joshua Build Guide. Players with clear data from the previous game receive the linked costume “Classic Style SC [Joshua]”.
Guide-site tier discussions treat his absence as a precondition for any strength rating — whenever Joshua’s power is discussed, the default assumption is that he cannot stay in the party for the whole game. That is also why the early-to-mid game party core recommended in Advanced Combat and Linking (Estelle + Kloe + Agate) does not rely on him at all: when he returns he is a high-speed combat reinforcement, and while he is away the party core is unaffected.
3. Renne#
Renne is one of the characters featured prominently in official promotion. The verified information is as follows:
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Official English name | Renne |
| Official Chinese name | Renne (per publisher Clouded Leopard Entertainment; the previously circulated “Ling” is an incorrect translation) |
| Voice actor | Aoi Yuki |
| Title | “Angel of Slaughter” |
| Story role | A sightseeing girl from Crossbell who later travels with Estelle |
Whether Renne can join the party in the remake is something the official page leaves open — she is listed under Other Characters rather than Party Members, so this site makes no claims and defers to the game itself.
As for story beats, Story and Ending already lists “Renne and the Enforcers standing in the way” as one of the journey’s key moments — her actions and those of the society’s Enforcers are obstacles Estelle’s group must face on the road. How exactly she comes to travel with Estelle, and what the party looks like at that point, remains a matter for the in-game text.
4. Ouroboros Enforcers and Enemy Characters#
The society known as Ouroboros is the antagonist organization of this entry. The society-related characters verified on the official site’s Other Characters list are as follows:
| Official English Name | Common Name | Verified Role |
|---|---|---|
| Leonhardt | Leonhardt | An Ouroboros Enforcer and story boss/antagonist; his boss title is the Bladelord, and the trophy-corroborated boss name is Loewe the Bladelord; no source anywhere supports him as a playable character |
| Weissmann | Weissmann | A society antagonist; the trophy-corroborated final boss is Angel Weissmann, a Lv.175 final form |
| Campanella | Campanella | Ouroboros Enforcer |
| Bleublanc | Bleublanc | Ouroboros Enforcer |
| Walter | Walter | Ouroboros Enforcer |
| Luciola | Luciola | Ouroboros Enforcer |
For the Crafts, strength values, and chapter appearance details of the Enforcers above, no fully verifiable data was found this time, so this site will not fill in numbers; boss fight information is covered in All Boss Guides.
On the trophy side there are two verified pieces of evidence: defeating the Bladelord corresponds to the hidden trophy Silver Will, Golden Wings, and defeating Weissmann’s Lv.175 final form corresponds to the hidden trophy The Wicked Liberator. Both are among the 13 hidden trophies out of 49 on the PS5 version, and the two fights in question are key milestones on the platinum route. For counter strategies see All Boss Guides; for the complete trophy list see Difficulty and Trophies.
5. An Honest Note on Playability#
| Character | Playability Status |
|---|---|
| The official site’s 8 Party Members | Playable characters disclosed on the official page; the basis for this page’s overview table |
| Renne | Listed under Other Characters on the official site; playability is determined by the game |
| Kevin | Listed under Other Characters on the official site; playability is determined by the game |
| Leonhardt | Story boss/antagonist, with no basis for playability |
| The “popular characters” from official promotion | Specific identities and joining conditions not disclosed in detail; determined by the game |
A note on naming: Renne is the official Clouded Leopard Entertainment translation (the previously circulated “Ling” is an incorrect rendering); the common Enforcer names — Campanella, Bleublanc, Walter, Luciola — follow community usage, and Clouded Leopard’s official simplified Chinese character names defer to the in-game text.
Character stats (level caps, stat panels, growth curves) could not be verified this time; the related build pages contain no specific numbers and only offer positioning analysis based on official information.
