Boss Guide#

Terraria’s progression runs on bosses. The current version (1.4.5) has 33 bosses: 8 pre-Hardmode, 10 Hardmode, 14 event bosses, and 1 secret-seed boss (Mechdusa). This page gives summon methods and strategy keys for the major bosses; full drop tables defer to each boss’s official wiki entry — we only write what’s verified.

Pre-Hardmode Bosses#

Eye of Cthulhu#

Summon conditions (source: official wiki):

  • Natural spawn: with 200+ max HP and 10+ defense, a 1/3 chance each night;
  • Manual summon: use a Suspicious Looking Eye at night (recipe not compiled here — ask the Guide in-game).

Strategy keys:

  • Phase 1 floats and charges; phase 2 accelerates with frequent dashes;
  • A long platform plus ranged weapons is the safest arena setup;
  • An Ironskin + Regeneration potion loadout covers the early fight.

Eater of Worlds#

Summon conditions:

  • Auto-summons upon breaking the third Shadow Orb in total (Shadow Orbs and Crimson Hearts share the count);
  • Or use Worm Food in the Corruption.

Strategy keys:

  • The worm body has multiple segments — attack through them;
  • Fight from a platform above the ground; avoid tangling with terrain;
  • AoE and piercing weapons pay off the most.

Brain of Cthulhu#

Summon conditions:

  • Auto-summons upon breaking the third Crimson Heart in total;
  • Or use Bloody Spine in the Crimson.

Strategy keys (mechanics verified against the official wiki):

  • The main body is immune in phase 1 — you must first kill the floating Creepers around it;
  • Once the Creepers are cleared, phase 2 begins teleporting and charging;
  • “Kill the Necromancer first” is an old-guide myth — Necromancers are Dungeon enemies, unrelated to this boss.

Queen Bee#

Summon conditions: break the larva inside an Underground Jungle hive.

Strategy keys: carve out enough space in the Underground Jungle, watch for charges and bee swarms, and keep ranged distance.

Skeletron#

Summon conditions: at night, talk to the Old Man at the Dungeon entrance and choose “Curse.”

Strategy keys:

  • Kill the hands first, then the head;
  • It must be defeated before dawn — otherwise it instantly kills you;
  • Skeletron is the gatekeeper to the Dungeon.

Wall of Flesh#

Summon conditions (source: official wiki): drop the Guide Voodoo Doll into lava in the Underworld.

Strategy keys:

  • Pre-build a long bridge in the Underworld as your arena;
  • Watch for both the lasers and the Leeches — Leeches can be blocked;
  • Defeating the Wall of Flesh activates Hardmode — the watershed of the whole game.

Hardmode Bosses#

The Mechanical Bosses#

The Destroyer, The Twins, and Skeletron Prime — summon items and detailed stats are on the Mechanical Bosses page. Shared keys:

  • Summon at night with the corresponding mechanical summon items;
  • Drops include Hallowed Bars and the matching Souls (Soul of Might / Sight / Fright).

Plantera#

Summon conditions: enter the Hardmode Underground Jungle and break her Bulb.

Strategy keys: phase 1 fires seeds and thorn balls; at half HP she shifts to a high-speed charging form. Pre-carve a wide arena in the Underground Jungle. Drops the Temple Key, opening the Jungle Temple.

Golem#

Summon conditions: use the Lihzahrd Power Cell at the altar inside the Jungle Temple.

Strategy keys: phase 1 uses fists and head fireballs; phase 2 detaches the flying head. Circle through the temple’s interior — the head is the main weak point.

Verified drops include the Sun Stone and Beetle Husk (a Beetle Armor ingredient). The full drop table defers to the official wiki’s Golem entry.

Lunatic Cultist#

Summon conditions: after defeating Golem, kill the Cultists at the Dungeon entrance.

Verified stats (source: official wiki’s Lunatic Cultist entry):

Attribute Value
HP (Classic) 32,000
HP (Expert) 48,000
HP (Master) 61,000
Ancient Manipulator 100% drop
Greater Healing Potions 100% drop
Mask 14.29%
Trophy 10%
Master-mode pet Relic fragment 25%

Key mechanic: during the ritual, phantom clones appear; if the ritual completes, a Phantom Dragon (or Ancient Vision) joins the fight — clear clones fast.

Moon Lord#

Summon conditions:

  • Auto-spawns after all four Celestial Pillars (Solar, Vortex, Nebula, Stardust) are destroyed;
  • Or summon directly with the Celestial Sigil — the Sigil has no full-HP requirement.

Strategy keys: the eyes on his forehead and hands fire Phantasmal Rays and Spheres; at low HP he unleashes the massive Phantasmal Deathray. Long platforms and high-mobility gear are standard.

Verified drops: Luminite (the endgame crafting material) plus graduation items like Meowmere, Star Wrath, and Portal Gun. The full drop table defers to the official wiki’s Moon Lord entry.

Universal Boss Prep#

Item Notes
Arena Multi-tier platforms with torches; leave vertical mobility room
Camp buffs Campfires and Heart Lanterns provide HP regen
Potions Ironskin, Regeneration, etc.; healing potions share a 60-second cooldown
Summon items Confirm you hold the right summon; bosses can be resummoned when absent
