Silent Hill 2 Remake Achievements Guide#

Silent Hill 2 Remake has 43 achievements on Steam and 44 trophies on PS5. This is not a “beat the story, collect the rest” list: roughly 20 trophies carry missable risk, the ending achievements demand that you plan your behavior in advance, and with no chapter select in the game, anything you miss can only be made up in a fresh playthrough.

This page uses verified data to lay out the totals, platinum cost, challenge trophy conditions, and playthrough planning, so you can clean up the list in as few runs as possible.

Total Count and Platinum Cost#

Item Figure
Steam achievements 43
PS5 trophies 44 (28 bronze, 12 silver, 3 gold, 1 platinum)
Platinum difficulty About 3/10
Platinum time About 20–30 hours
Missable trophies About 20
Minimum playthroughs 2 playthroughs

Three key premises shape the entire plan:

  1. No chapter select, no free roam. You cannot return to earlier chapters after the credits roll, and once you leave an area it is gone for good. The only way to make up a miss is to replay the whole game in New Game+.
  2. Endings are decided by a score built over the entire run, not by a single choice right before the finale. Ending achievements require committing to a direction before the playthrough even starts.
  3. Collectibles are strictly one-shot. Most of the roughly 20 missable trophies are tied to collectibles and actions at story beats, and a manual save is the only insurance.

Ending Achievements#

The game has 8 endings in total: a first playthrough can naturally reach Leave, Maria, and In Water (3 endings); New Game+ adds Rebirth, Stillness, Bliss, Dog, and UFO (5 more), with Stillness and Bliss being new to the remake.

One easy-to-misread interaction is worth flagging for the ending achievements: the Party Like It’s 2001 trophy only requires the 5 classic endings (Leave, Maria, In Water, Rebirth, Dog) and does not include UFO. In other words, the platinum route needs the Dog gag ending but does not require unlocking UFO. As for whether the 43 Steam achievements include another one tied to the UFO ending, we have not verified the full achievement list and make no claim either way.

Endings hinge on hidden behavior scoring spread across the whole game (viewing Mary’s photo and letter, whether you examine Angela’s knife, how you treat Maria, health management, and whether you listen to the entire final corridor conversation), plus New Game+ collection lines (4 ritual items for Rebirth, 2 keys for Dog, the Blue Gem investigation for UFO, and the safe items for Bliss and Stillness). For condition-by-condition requirements and locations, see the endings guide page; this page does not repeat them.

Challenge Achievements#

The verified signature challenge conditions are as follows:

Challenge Condition Notes
Faster Than Fog Finish the game in under 10 hours Considerably below the main-story average (about 16 hours); demands solid route knowledge and skipping optional fights
As Close as You Like Kill no enemies with ranged weapons for the whole game Every kill has to come from melee; you save the ammo, but the risk is higher
Beat the game with the radio off Keep the radio turned off for the entire run Trophy name not yet verified by this site; the condition is confirmed
All three collectible types Collect every memo, Glimpse of the Past, and photo in a single playthrough Trophy name not yet verified by this site; the condition is confirmed

The speedrun and melee challenges are natural partners: a 10-hour cap simply leaves no room for many fights, and bypassing regular enemies saves time while also satisfying the “no ranged kills” condition. If you chase both in the same run, fight the battles you cannot avoid, such as boss fights, with melee only, and keep a manual save before entering each new area.

Collection Achievements#

The difficulty of the collection achievements is not “can you find them” but “can you avoid missing them”. The requirement tied to the achievements is gathering all three types — memos, Glimpses of the Past, and Strange Photos — within a single playthrough (these are the type names confirmed by this site; for what each type looks like and the complete location lists, see the collectibles guide page, which this page does not duplicate).

Ground rules:

  1. Search every new area clean before moving on. Leaving an area means no way back, so every accessible room shown on the map deserves a one-by-one check.
  2. Save manually. Keep a manual save slot from before you leave an area; if you notice a miss later, you can reload and grab it instead of starting a whole new playthrough.
  3. Work against a checklist. The complete location lists are on the collectibles guide page; tick items off as you go.

Known Glitched Trophies#

Community guide sites (PowerPyx) have flagged 3 trophies with unlock glitches:

  • Merciless
  • Faster Than Fog
  • Party Like It’s 2001

If you meet the conditions and the trophy still does not pop, do not be quick to doubt your own route — these 3 are known to misbehave. Follow the official patch notes (see the version updates page) and the latest notes from community guide sites; if needed, reload a save to retrigger the unlock, or wait for a fix and try again.

Playthrough Planning#

The game needs at least 2 playthroughs, with total platinum time around 20–30 hours. A reference route:

Playthrough Main goals Time reference
First playthrough Play naturally and enjoy the story, lock in one first-playthrough ending (Leave / Maria / In Water), and pick up achievements that require no specific behavior About 16 hours (main-story average)
New Game+ run Complete the remaining endings — Rebirth, Dog, Bliss, Stillness (UFO is also New Game+ only) — and do the full three-type collectible sweep Depends on your goals (about 32.5 hours for full collection per HowLongToBeat, for reference only)
Cleanup run Challenge trophies (speedrun, melee, no radio) and whatever story-beat achievements remain Keep total platinum time within the 20–30 hour range

Two practical tips:

  • Do not get greedy on the first playthrough. The behavior scores interfere with one another; chasing both Leave and Rebirth in a single run usually means landing neither. Pick a direction and keep your criteria consistent.
  • Save the speedrun for last. A fast run requires routes, keys, and puzzle solutions to be second nature. Done after you know the game inside out, its success rate is far higher than brute-forcing it on a first playthrough.

Ending Criteria and Collection Requirements#

The criteria for the ending achievements map one-to-one onto the scoring mechanics on the endings guide page. Scored criteria include: whether you viewed Mary’s photo and letter, whether you examined Angela’s knife, how you treat Maria, your health level, and whether you heard the entire final corridor conversation. There is no official documentation of each criterion’s leanings and weights, and this site makes no per-item claims; before going for an ending achievement, confirm how your target ending is reached on the endings page, then play by the principle of consistent behavior from start to finish.

The collection actions tied to each ending are summarized below for direct reference while planning your playthroughs:

Ending Collection/actions required Playthrough required
Leave / Maria / In Water No collection requirements; decided by behavior scoring across the whole run A first playthrough is enough
Rebirth Gather the 4 ritual items: Crimson Ceremony Book, White Chrism, Obsidian Goblet, Lost Memories New Game+
Dog Obtain the 2 keys: the pet shop key and the doghouse key New Game+
UFO Get the clue at the Groovy Music store and pick up the Blue Gem, then complete the investigation at 4 locations (the music store included) New Game+
Bliss Open the bowling alley safe (code 1887) for the key → the wooden chest in the Brookhaven Hospital garden gazebo → combine and use it in Lakeview Hotel room 312 New Game+
Stillness Reach In Water first, then in a new playthrough open the safe with code 314 and the Key of Sorrow to get the postcard A new playthrough after In Water

Pay special attention to the unique status of In Water: it is both a first-playthrough ending and the prerequisite for Stillness — slot it into your plan early and you save yourself one extra run.

Common Pitfalls#

  • Sweeping areas before you leave: most of the roughly 20 missable trophies relate to this. Before leaving any area, clear out the unexplored rooms on the map.
  • Actions tied to story beats: some achievements require a specific action at a fixed story beat, and there is no going back once you move past it. A manual save before key beats is the only insurance.
  • Behavior accumulation for ending achievements: the entire run is being scored, and changing your mind midway easily muddies your tendencies. Either commit all the way, or reload to a key point and restart.
  • The post-credits illusion: there is no such thing as “mopping up with chapter select after the credits” — the feature does not exist in this game. Whatever you missed this run, plan for it in the next one (New Game+).

Source Notes#

The data on this page (achievement and trophy totals, platinum difficulty and time, missable counts, playthrough requirements, challenge conditions, and the glitched trophy list) was verified online on October 8, 2026, with sources including the community guide sites PowerPyx, TrueTrophies, and Gameranx.

The English trophy names for two entries (beating the game with the radio off, and the three-type collectible sweep) remain unverified; this site makes no guesses and will add them once confirmed.
