Resident Evil Village (RE8) Builds#

First, the ground rules: Resident Evil Village has no skill trees, crit chances, weapon mastery, or any other progression systems — the “skill builds,” “crit stacking,” and “weapon mastery” talk found on older pages simply does not exist in this game and has been removed. A build here comes down to four real elements: weapon choice (16 weapons), the four upgrades at The Duke’s shop (power, rate of fire, reload speed, magazine capacity), weapon parts (22 in the entire game), and money planning (selling treasures for Lei, buying recipes and upgrades). This page organizes its loadout advice around exactly those four elements.

Available Weapons and When You Get Them#

A loadout starts with knowing what you will have in hand at each point of the game (for how each weapon is acquired, see the weapon compendium):

Stage Weapons available Notes
Prologue LEMI Handgun obtained in the opening story
Village M1897, M1911 The M1897 is looted from a house early on; the M1911 is in the Workshop safe (code 070408)
Around the Castle F2 Rifle, W870 TAC The W870 is picked up after returning from House Beneviento
Reservoir GM 79, M1851 Wolfsbane The GM 79 comes from the weapon treasure at the East Old Town waterwheel; the M1851 comes from Moreau’s lab treasure
Late-game shop SYG-12 (180,000 Lei), V61 Custom (120,000 Lei) Bought from The Duke
New Game+ S.T.A.K.E. (300,000 Lei) The strongest magnum
CP reward weapons USM-AI (20,000 CP), WCX / Dragoon (30,000 CP each), Handcannon PZ (60,000 CP + Hardcore clear), Rocket Pistol (80,000 CP + Village of Shadows clear) Once unlocked, bought at a low price from The Duke

General Loadout Framework#

Slot Recommendation Why
Main handgun LEMI → M1911 The handgun ammo recipe is learned automatically, so supply is the most reliable
Close range M1897 → W870 TAC → SYG-12 The shotgun ammo recipe costs just 3,000 Lei, and close-range payoff is high
Long range F2 Rifle The sniper ammo recipe is 4,000 Lei; ideal against weak points
Boss fights M1851 Wolfsbane → S.T.A.K.E. The magnum ammo recipe is 10,000 Lei; the highest per-shot payoff
Utility GM 79 Grenade and flash rounds cover groups and control the field

The thinking behind a build is not “picking a school” — it is allocating investment by ammo supply cost: handgun ammo is the cheapest and magnum the most expensive. Leave the expensive rounds for boss fights and spend the cheap ones on routine room-clearing.

Stage-by-Stage Loadout Advice#

Village (Prologue Until the Castle)#

  • Weapons: LEMI + M1897; crack the Workshop safe as soon as possible to get the M1911.
  • Upgrades: Raise the M1897’s power first — when Lycans come in packs, a shotgun is the fastest way to break out of trouble.
  • Recipes: Your first recipe investment should be shotgun ammo (3,000 Lei); pipe bombs (2,500 Lei) and mines (3,500 Lei) follow soon after, for setting traps ahead of boss fights.
  • Economy: Sell the treasures and spare ammo you find; crystal drops (such as the Crystallized Mechanical Heart from Soldats, which sells for 5,000 Lei) are an important income source.

Castle to Reservoir#

  • Weapons: M1911 + W870 TAC + F2 Rifle; in the reservoir area, be sure to claim the M1851 Wolfsbane (Moreau’s lab treasure).
  • Upgrades: Fill in the F2’s reload speed; take the M1851 all the way up — it is the core damage dealer for boss fights in the back half.
  • Recipes: Sniper ammo (4,000 Lei), grenade and flash rounds (3,000 Lei each, once you have the GM 79), magnum ammo (10,000 Lei).

Factory and Finale#

  • Weapons: M1851 Wolfsbane + W870 TAC/SYG-12 + F2; distribute firepower across the Soldat family according to each variant’s weak point location (details below).
  • Counterplay: Keep Sturm at mid range and circle him; before the Heisenberg showdown, stock up on magnum ammo and First Aid Meds.

Firepower Assignments by Enemy#

What each gun is pointed at matters as much as which guns you carry:

Enemy Recommended firepower Basis
Lycan packs Shotgun at close range Cheapest ammo cost for routine clears
Soldat Eins Any weapon aimed at the red reactor on the chest Weak point location verified
Soldat Zwei Circle behind and hit the red reactor on its back Weak point location verified
Soldat Panzer Break the armor first with mines/grenades Armor must be destroyed first
The three Daughters Break windows to let cold air in, then focus fire once they freeze Fire is not their weakness
Sturm Mid-range circling fire Lethal within flamethrower range

CP Reward Weapon Route#

Challenge Points (CP) are earned by completing the game’s 94 challenges. Recommended order for the reward weapons:

  1. USM-AI (20,000 CP): an upgrade for the handgun slot; infinite ammo costs another 40,000 CP.
  2. WCX / Dragoon (30,000 CP each): the assault rifle slot; note that the Dragoon is a regular assault rifle with nothing to do with difficulty clears.
  3. Handcannon PZ (60,000 CP, requires clearing Hardcore first): the hand cannon; once unlocked, buy it from The Duke for 1,100 Lei.
  4. Rocket Pistol (80,000 CP, requires clearing Village of Shadows first): once unlocked, buy it from The Duke for 1,500 Lei.

If your CP budget is tight, secure “infinite ammo for your main weapons” before spreading points evenly — infinite ammo for the LEMI costs only 10,000 CP, the best-value first purchase. The full CP price table is in the weapon compendium.

Money Management Essentials#

  1. Income, ranked: treasures (combine what can be combined before selling) > crystal drops from elites > selling spare ammo and food ingredients.
  2. Spending priority: ammo recipes → main weapon power → part slots → everything else.
  3. Upgrade cost benchmark: take the S.T.A.K.E. — its power goes from 2000 to 4500 across 5 levels for a cumulative 598,000 Lei (per-level data from stevivor.com). The magnum line is the priciest investment among all weapons, so start saving early.
  4. Do not hoard ammo you will never use: selling it to fund upgrades is the better deal.

Difficulties and Loadouts#

Difficulty Loadout advice Goal
Casual / Standard Progress naturally through the stage framework Learn the flow, collect collectibles
Hardcore Resources are tight; prioritize the low-cost firepower of shotgun + sniper; clearing unlocks the right to buy the Handcannon PZ Challenge + reward weapon
Village of Shadows Unlocked by clearing the game or via the Trauma Pack; clearing unlocks the right to buy the Rocket Pistol Hardcore challenge

Official complete data on how enemy stats differ per difficulty has not been published, so this site will not speculate; judging a loadout by “ammo supply cost” holds on any difficulty.

Why New Game+ Matters for Your Loadout#

  • S.T.A.K.E. (300,000 Lei) is only sold in New Game+ — if you want the strongest magnum, a second playthrough is the only way.
  • Assault rifle ammo and rocket pistol ammo recipes also unlock in New Game+ (10,000 Lei each), supplying the WCX/Dragoon and the Rocket Pistol.
  • The prerequisite for buying infinite ammo is the weapon being fully upgraded with all parts installed — parts and Lei you deliberately held back during the first playthrough can be converted straight into infinite ammo in the second.

Common Misconceptions, Corrected#

Misconception Fact
Bow/explosive-arrow builds This game has no bows or arrow ammo whatsoever
Shovel melee builds Melee is fists and knives only; there is no equippable shovel
Skill tree/crit/weapon mastery points These systems do not exist; all progression comes from Duke upgrades and parts
Dragoon is a hardest-difficulty reward The Dragoon is an assault rifle unlocked for 30,000 CP and bought for 400 Lei
Upgrade costs bundled per build This site has no full per-level cost tables for every weapon; only the S.T.A.K.E. power line has verified data (598,000 Lei)

At its core, a build is resource management: knowing what every round costs, where every enemy’s weak point sits, and where every Lei goes will beat any “strongest template.”
