Schedule Management#
Persona 5 Royal designs the playthrough calendar as a one-way street: days gone by never return, and where each slot goes decides how much of the true ending, Confidants, and trophies you collect. This page explains how the time system works—how slots are divided, which days the story locks down, and how weather and exams disrupt planning—and gathers the year’s most critical deadlines. Day-by-day plans and Confidant priorities are on the Calendar Guide; the date-by-date main story is in the Walkthrough.
Four basic rules of the time system#
| Rule | Mechanic | Impact on planning |
|---|---|---|
| Two free slots per day | Ordinary school days split into after-school and evening slots, and most Confidants and activities take only one | Confirm which slot an activity opens in before planning, to avoid same-slot collisions |
| Story days lock slots | Main-story days (cutscenes, forced infiltrations, finals, etc.) consume a full slot or entire day, leaving no free action | Check the in-game calendar before heading to a Palace; deduct story days as unavailable |
| Palace deadlines run independently | Each Palace sets a clear window from first entry to calling card to Treasure theft; missing it fails the mission and breaks the playthrough | Palace windows override everything: push Palaces first, give leftover days to Confidants and stats |
| Weather changes yields | Rain stalls some outdoor activities while boosting some indoor ones; Palace infiltration ignores weather | Rainy days suit studying and reading; keep indoor backups for outdoor plans |
Stack these four rules and you get why a playthrough’s schedule is so tight: usable days are fewer than the calendar suggests, while Confidants, the five social stats (Knowledge, Guts, Proficiency, Charm, Kindness), and jobs all crowd the same timeline.
The year’s story skeleton and key dates#
The main story advances through eight Palaces by semester: Kamoshida, Madarame, Kaneshiro, Futaba, Okumura, Niijima, and Shido, with Maruki’s cognitive science research lab added in the third semester. Area routes and boss fights live on the Palaces page; this table lists only what scheduling needs:
| Stage | Story and events | Scheduling notes |
|---|---|---|
| Apr-May | Enrollment, Awakening, Kamoshida’s Palace; Golden Week and midterms | Kamoshida’s deadline is the loosest—learn the activity locations early; on 5/13 Maruki’s (Councillor) Confidant unlocks automatically with the story, and from that day it belongs in a weekly fixed slot |
| May-Jun | Madarame’s Palace; exams and the rainy season | Shift rainy windows to study and reading; Madarame’s deadline is tighter than the first Palace—don’t dawdle |
| Jun-Jul | Kaneshiro’s Palace; finals and summer break’s start | The last full teaching stretch before summer—the cheapest time to shore up stat weaknesses |
| Aug | Summer break offers the year’s most free time; Futaba’s Palace and the fireworks festival | The golden window for stat sprints and Mementos—don’t waste it on aimless strolls |
| Sep-Oct | Okumura’s and Niijima’s Palaces open in turn | Build toward November: push Maruki and Akechi close to their cutoffs |
| Nov | Shido’s Palace; the 11/17 double deadline and the 11/20 interrogation choice | The tightest month of the game—every deadline lands here; see below |
| Dec | Shido arc concludes; 12/22 Kasumi deadline and the 12/24 deal choice | Refuse the “God of Control” deal on 12/24 or the story never reaches the third semester |
| Jan-Feb | Third semester: the 1/9 choice, exams on 1/11 and 2/11, resolve on 2/2, and Maruki’s Palace deadline on 2/3 | Maruki’s Palace final deadline is 2/3—missing it fails the mission (time rewinds one week) and voids the true ending |
Two lifelines in this string of dates must be singled out:
- Raise Maruki (Councillor) to Confidant Rank 9 before 11/17—the only condition for the third semester and true ending. The 11/18 story scene auto-promotes him to max (Rank 10); miss this line and the story wraps at the end of December in the original game’s structure, voiding every date after January.
- Raise Goro Akechi (Justice) to Confidant Rank 8 before 11/17 to see the extended ending scene on the true-ending route. His Confidant has hard stat gates: Rank 3 requires Knowledge and Charm at 3 each, Rank 7 requires Knowledge 4—budget social stats into the plan.
Kasumi Yoshizawa (Faith) is not on this list—she is not a true-ending condition; reaching Rank 5 before 12/22 merely keeps her Confidant alive into January, and failure costs her line for the playthrough, not the true ending. Treating her as a true-ending condition and racing dates is the most common misplan this section has seen.
Full ending-branch checks and the consequences of the five choice days (11/20, 12/24, 1/9, 2/2, 2/3) are on the Endings page; not repeated here.
Exams and classroom questions: two different schedules#
The school year repeatedly presents “use your head” days in two forms, mechanically distinct and prepared differently:
| Type | How it appears | Mechanic and prep |
|---|---|---|
| Classroom questions | Scattered through ordinary class days | You answer on the spot; correct answers raise Knowledge directly and may earn bonus favor from teachers or classmates |
| Formal exams | Fixed slots for midterms, finals, and third-semester exams | Also answered on the spot, but scores are gated by Knowledge rank—without enough Knowledge, even all-correct answers won’t reach the top score |
The schedule-tied trophy condition is scoring the top score in school on both 1/11 and 2/11 exams in the third semester (a silver trophy). It exists only in playthroughs where the Maruki condition was met—in other words, miss the 11/17 Maruki cutoff and this trophy vanishes with everything else in the third semester. Trophy chasers should do both: answer classroom questions to bank Knowledge, and schedule review sessions before exams. The full trophy table is on Achievements.
Scheduling logic for the five social stats#
The five stats (Knowledge, Guts, Proficiency, Charm, Kindness) have no single best raising path; most stats draw from school, home, and outing activities, and the game labels gains when choosing—no lookup table needed. Grouping by “setting” is the efficient way to plan:
| Setting | Typical activities | Scheduling value |
|---|---|---|
| School | Classroom questions, pre-exam review | Zero extra cost—happens with the timetable; remember to review before exams |
| Home | Reading, tending plants | A stable filler for evening gaps, rain or shine |
| Outings | Movies, big-eater challenges, the arcade, fishing | Mostly daytime holiday-limited, with weather bonuses—never pass them up |
| Kichijoji | Darts and billiards | Note: these raise Baton Pass and Technical ranks—combat investments, not social stats; keep them out of stat schedules |
Two practical principles: first, when a stat-gated Confidant event won’t open, train the targeted stat for that Confidant’s gate—spreading points evenly achieves half as much; second, rain stalls some outdoor activities and boosts some indoor ones, so rainy days favor studying and reading. Rank-by-rank gates and rewards on the Confidants page.
Weather and event days#
- Rain: outdoor activities (some shopping spots, shrine prayers, etc.) close or lose yield, while indoor study and reading improve; Palace infiltration is unaffected—no need to wait for sunshine to grind.
- Fixed event days: the fireworks festival, the Hawaii trip, the culture festival, and Christmas/New Year scenes consume whole stretches with zero player input. You can’t advance Confidants on these days—but that also means finishing business in the days before them.
- Exam weeks: exam slots squeeze free time, and reviewing itself takes time; placing review into pre-exam evening gaps beats last-minute cramming on exam day.
Jobs and money scheduling#
Jobs open through recruitment notices in Shibuya, Yongen-Jaya, and elsewhere, occupying after-school or evening slots for money and matching stat growth, with some jobs gated by stats. In a first playthrough, jobs yield to Confidants: money gaps can be covered in Mementos, but a missed Confidant window is missed forever. Mementos farming methods on the Mementos page.
Tiering the playthrough: Must-Do, Recommended, Optional#
Sorting limited slots by mechanical consequence is this page’s core advice, with one criterion—whether a miss can be recovered this playthrough:
| Tier | Target | Mechanical basis |
|---|---|---|
| Must-Do | Story Palaces and the five choice days | Missing a Palace breaks the playthrough; selling out friends on 11/20 or accepting the deal on 12/24 or 1/9 diverts straight into a bad ending |
| Must-Do | Maruki’s Confidant | Rank 9 before 11/17 is the sole unlock for the third semester and true ending—no recovery |
| Recommended | Akechi’s Confidant | Rank 8 by 11/17 unlocks the extended scene; stat-gated, so plan ahead |
| Recommended | Kasumi’s Confidant | Rank 5 by 12/22 or her line locks this playthrough; failure doesn’t affect the true ending |
| Recommended | Review for the two third-semester exams | Top scores on both 1/11 and 2/11 earn a silver trophy, available only in third-semester playthroughs |
| Optional | Other Confidants, the Mementos Stamp Rally, Thieves Den achievements | Touch no ending or trophy routes; progress as far as you get—New Game+ inheritance makes catching up cheaper |
The losses behind “Must-Do” items are all permanent—a wrong-choice bad ending and a missed deadline never offer a second try, which is exactly why they come first. “Optional” is the mirror image: the game keeps no completion statistics, and a few unmaxed Confidants won’t cost you the true ending.
Common mistakes and corrections#
| Mistake | Actual mechanic |
|---|---|
| Racing dates for Kasumi as a true-ending condition | She only concerns her own line: Rank 5 by 12/22 or it locks this playthrough; the true ending hinges only on Maruki’s 11/17 cutoff |
| Assuming rainy days have nothing to do | Rain boosts some indoor activities and Palaces proceed as usual—rainy days still have work |
| Wasting summer break | August holds the year’s most free time—the best stretch for stat sprints and Confidants, gone once missed |
| Ignoring the 2/3 Palace deadline | Missing Maruki’s Palace fails the mission (time rewinds one week), voids the true ending, and forces a reload |
| Using stat schedules to train darts and billiards | In Kichijoji these raise Baton Pass and Technical—combat investments; pick matching activities for stats |
