EA Sports FC 26 Guide#
EA Sports FC 26 is the second entry in EA’s football series since the FIFA split, launching worldwide on September 26, 2025. The headline change this year isn’t a pile of new content — it’s EA finally breaking up the old “one feel for every mode” problem by shipping two distinct gameplay presets in the same game: one tuned for online competition, one for offline simulation. This guide is organized around that split, covering gameplay fundamentals, Ultimate Team, tactics, and every mode in between.
Editorial note: EA Sports FC 26 launched on September 26, 2025, and everything below is based on official EA announcements, Pitch Notes, and post-launch reviews. Promo card ratings, market prices, and tier-list data change constantly, so this guide doesn’t publish fixed rankings — only mechanics that hold up over time.

What’s New This Year#
| Change | Details |
|---|---|
| Two gameplay presets | Competitive (Ultimate Team and Clubs): faster passing, fewer automatic tackles, lower crossing success rates, and more believable keeper rebounds. Authentic (Career and offline matches): more positionally disciplined defending, corner-kick success rates closer to real-world averages, and more natural goalmouth scrambles |
| Expanded FC IQ | New player roles — ball-playing goalkeepers, wide defenders, inverted full-backs, box crashers, and more — make the tactical layer finer than last year’s |
| Set pieces | Eight new set-piece routines, including two attacking corner setups and four defensive ones, plus assignable left- and right-side throw-in takers; timed shots on free kicks have been removed |
| Squad interface | Position-mismatch warnings, in-possession and out-of-possession view toggles, and a six-axis radar (attacking, defending, build-up, width, depth, stamina) |
| Tactics codes | FC 25 tactics codes convert automatically to this year’s format, with up to ten saved and reusable across modes |
| Club Archetypes | Thirteen new Archetype progression paths in Clubs and Player Career, each with its own signature playstyle |
| Season Pass | Live from day one across Clubs and Career, not just Ultimate Team |
Modes at a Glance#
| Mode | Focus | Key Points |
|---|---|---|
| Ultimate Team | Online competitive core | The card pool, chemistry, Evolutions, and Drafts loop |
| Clubs | Co-op with real players | Up to 22 players on the pitch — 11 custom-pro players per team |
| Career (Manager) | Offline management | New Manager Live Events and random incidents |
| Career (Player) | Offline role-play | Plan your growth path with Archetypes |
| Rush | Fast-paced 5v5 | Introduced last year, now expanded across four modes, each with variants |
| Kick-Off | Instant play | Face the AI or jump into international matches |
| Tournaments | Knockout | Single elimination, up to four rounds, mixing entry requirements and squad rules |
Common Beginner Mistakes#
| Rookie Mistake | Why It Backfires | What to Do Instead |
|---|---|---|
| Picking a preset at random | Competitive passes faster but punishes errors; Authentic is slower and leans harder on your shape | Competitive online, Authentic offline |
| Buying packs right away | Pack odds are random, and early coins have the most buying power | Grind matches and objectives first, then decide whether to spend |
| Dumping all coins into one player | One star can’t carry ten positions | Fix weak positions first, then upgrade your core |
| Sacrificing starters for perfect chemistry | Chemistry is an amplifier, not the goal | Lock in three or four core players, then build links around them |
| Chasing promo cards at launch prices | Supply is at its lowest and prices peak in week one | Wait a week to see where prices and meta strength settle |
| Ignoring weekly reward play requirements | Weekly rewards are tiered by points — miss a tier, lose that tier’s loot | Check the week’s tier requirements before deciding how much to play |
FAQ#
Is Rush the biggest new mode this year?#
No. Rush already replaced Volta in the previous title, EA Sports FC 25; this year it has been expanded to four modes — Ultimate Team, Clubs, Kick-Off, and Career — each with its own variants.
Does Ultimate Team progress carry over from last year?#
No. Each title stands alone, and neither cards nor coins transfer.
Is there a World Cup mode?#
Yes. The World’s Game update added a 48-team international tournament mode featuring 53 licensed national teams.
Is the Ultimate Edition worth the upgrade?#
It comes down to two questions: do you want seven days of early access, and do you need the extra Evolution slot and Season Pass? If you’re only here for offline Career Mode, the Standard Edition is enough.
Is the Switch version the same as the console versions?#
The content is broadly the same, but platform differences remain — the Switch version includes fewer FC Points, and some performance aspects differ.
Do you need a subscription to play online?#
Not on PC. On Xbox, online play requires the corresponding membership service.
Do promo card values drop over time?#
Yes. Prices are set by supply, demand, and current in-game strength, and they typically fall once a promo window closes.
Why doesn’t this site publish a fixed tier list?#
Promo card ratings and market prices shift every week, so a static list goes stale almost immediately and misleads readers.
The Seasonal Rhythm#
The game runs on seasons of roughly six weeks, punctuated by live events, tournaments, and themed card drops. Each spring, The World’s Game update adds international tournament content — the biggest gameplay expansion of the year. To keep pace, check the Live Events hub and Objectives page weekly instead of trusting any single list.
