Aion 2 Guide#

Aion 2 is an aerial-combat MMORPG built on Unreal Engine 5 by NC (formerly NCSOFT). The global version is PC-exclusive, distributed through Steam and NC’s own PURPLE platform, and is free-to-play with in-app purchases. Early access opened on September 30, 2026 to Founder’s Pack buyers for a five-day window, and the free full launch followed on October 5, 2026. This hub covers faction choice, the eight classes, flight and aerial combat, the Abyss and fortress sieges, gear enhancement, and the economy and business model — every core system.

Release Timeline#

The global rollout of Aion 2 was officially broken into multiple announced milestones, and this timeline clarifies what each date actually refers to:

Date Event
2025-11-19 Korea/Taiwan servers launch first; much of what shaped the global version’s systems (leveling pace, enhancement mechanics, economy model) came from this phase
2026-06-05 At Summer Game Fest, the global release window was narrowed to “September 2026”
2026-07-22 Official announcement: early access starts September 30 and lasts 5 days
2026-09-16 Pre-download opens for the global Launch Scale Test
2026-09-17 to 09-18 The stress test runs: level cap 37, 6 hours per day, all progress wiped after the second day
2026-09-28 Early access pre-download opens (from 6 a.m. Pacific)
2026-09-30 Early access servers open, Founder’s Pack buyers only
2026-10-05 Free full launch — every player can enter

One thing to note carefully: character progress from the stress test is not kept (day-one progress carried over, everything was wiped after day two), so levels and gear knowledge from the test do not transfer directly into the live version.

What This Game Is#

The story is set 200 years after the original Aion. In the shattered world of Atreia, most of the map is controlled by the Balaur, and the opposition between the Elyos and the Asmodians continues. You play a Daeva bound to a fragment of the Aion tower, with a chance to grow into the next Arch Daeva.

Three pillars set it apart from other online games:

  1. Flight is combat — wings unlock extremely early and almost the entire map is flyable; altitude, aerial dodging, and three-dimensional positioning can decide a fight outright, and enemies knocked into the air can be kept there with aerial combos.
  2. No auto-battle — pure target locking is gone, replaced by aimed skills combined with real-time dodging, blocking, combos, backstabs, and positioning; there is no auto-combat, no auto-pathing, and no idle grinding.
  3. A layered open world — the seamless map is roughly 36 times the size of the original, with surface, underground, and floating-island layers, plus underwater locations and water transport.

Notes on Reading This Section#

Aion 2’s global version entered early access on September 30, 2026, and most system numbers currently can only draw on roughly a year of Korean/Taiwan server operations. Wherever such data appears, this section marks its source: any figure labeled “Korean server experience” or “community consensus” may still change on the global servers — around the launch week (October 5) the affected pages will get a round of centralized corrections.

Two other points deserve special attention: the final global level cap has not been officially announced (the stress test used 37, and the Korean servers currently sit at 50); and two conflicting media reports circulate about the region-lock policy, so this section only states what multiple sources agree on. Both are covered in detail in the beginner FAQ in the Chinese section.
