Characters#
First, the totals, so old guides cannot mislead you:
| Figure | Number | Source |
|---|---|---|
| All DLC combined (as of 1.14, seven DLCs) | 209 characters | rogueranker.com |
| Of which base game | 34 standard + 22 hidden = 56 | rogueranker.com |
| Legacy of the Bloodmoon (2026-08) additions | +12 | vampire.survivors.wiki |
| Current estimated total | About 221 | rogueranker.com, vampire.survivors.wiki |
Older guides claiming “over 40 playable characters” are badly out of date — Ode to Castlevania alone ships 96. The roster keeps growing with each version; the in-game character list is the live source of truth.
The Four Default Starters#
Only the following four characters are available when the base game starts; everyone else has an unlock condition:
Antonio Belpaese#
| Attribute | Content |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Available by default |
| Passive bonus | +10% might every 10 levels, capped at +50% |
Antonio is the default beginner character: might climbs steadily with levels. His passive has no gimmick — ideal for learning positioning and the evolution flow.
Imelda Belpaese#
| Attribute | Content |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Available by default |
| Passive bonus | +10% experience every 5 levels, capped at +30% |
The XP bonus runs Imelda’s leveling curve faster than other characters, producing more frequent level-up choices — ideal for pushing unlocks and getting builds online quickly.
Pasqualina Belpaese#
| Attribute | Content |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Available by default |
| Passive bonus | +10% projectile speed every 5 levels, capped at +30% |
Projectile speed shapes the coverage rhythm of projectile weapons. Her bonus reads most clearly on speed-dependent weapons (the Knife family, for example).
Gennaro Belpaese#
| Attribute | Content |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Available by default |
| Passive bonus | +1 projectile on all weapons |
A flat +1 projectile applies to every weapon — the most direct quantity boost of the four. Paired with projectile boosts like Duplicator, his early clearing power jumps noticeably.
Note: the five passive figures above (including Mortaccio’s) are verified per bluestacks.com and escapistmagazine.com. Passive numbers for the remaining characters have not been individually verified and are not listed here — the in-game character info is authoritative.
Base-Game Unlock Conditions#
Verified unlock conditions for base-game characters. Kill-count conditions accumulate across runs:
| Character | Unlock condition |
|---|---|
| Poe | Level Garlic to 7 |
| Suor Clerici | Heal a cumulative 1,000 HP |
| Dommario | Collect 5,000 gold in a single run |
| Krochi | Accumulate 100,000 kills |
| Mortaccio | Kill 3,000 skeletons total |
| Yatta Cavallo | Kill 3,000 Lion Heads total |
| Bianca Ramba | Kill 3,000 Milk Elementals total |
| O’Sole Meeo | Kill 3,000 lobsters total |
| Sir Ambrojoe | Kill 6,000 Stage Killers total |
Mortaccio’s Scaling#
Mortaccio’s projectile bonus is +1 every 20 levels, to a maximum of +3 at level 60 (per bluestacks.com). Older guides claiming “+5 projectiles max” contradict their own tables — the correct cap is +3.
Hidden Characters#
Full unlock walkthroughs live on the Secrets page; here is the verified quick list:
| Character | How to unlock |
|---|---|
| Exdash Exiviiq | Type x-x1viiq on the main menu, or a 1/65535 chance while picking a Clover |
| Toastie | Unlock Exdash first; press ↓ + Enter within half a second of defeating a Stalker / Drowner / Trickster |
| Smith IV | Type SPAM in three different menus, then type HUMBUG in a run |
| Mask of the Red Death | Defeat the Death that arrives at 30:00 in normal mode |
| Queen Sigma | Complete every Collection entry |
| Boon Marrabbio | Collect 100 roast chickens and progress the Yellow Sign chain |
| Gains Boros | Stand in The Bone Zone’s wreath for 10 seconds |
| Gyorunton | Survive 15 minutes in Boss Rash with a single weapon |
| Random | Open coffins repeatedly |
Mask of the Red Death’s known stats: starting weapon Death Spiral, 255 HP, +100% move speed, +20% might (per escapistmagazine.com).
DLC Rosters#
DLC characters unlock via conditions in their content, then must be purchased with gold — installing the DLC does not grant them. The lists below are verified per vampire.survivors.wiki:
Legacy of the Moonspell (8)#
Miang Moonspell, Menya Moonspell, Syuuto Moonspell, Babi-Onna, McCoy-Oni, Megalo Menya Moonspell, Megalo Syuuto Moonspell, Gav’Et-Oni. The 1.16 update added Spiritoso, Spiritosa, Gekkojin, and Megalo Miang Moonspell to this DLC.
The “McCormick | Silver Wind” entry in older guides does not exist — this DLC has no such character.
Tides of the Foscari (8)#
Eleanor Uziron, Maruto Cuts, Keitha Muort, Luminaire Foscari, Je-Ne-Viv, Genevieve Gruyère, Rottin’Ghoul, Sharlow Foscari.
Note: Suor Clerici is a base-game character (unlock: heal 1,000 HP total), not part of this DLC. Old guides listing her among the Foscari roster are wrong.
Emergency Meeting (the Among Us crossover, 9)#
Crewmate Dino, Engineer Gino, Ghost Lino, Shapeshifter Nino, Guardian Pina, Impostor Rina, Scientist Mina, Horse, Megalo Impostor Rina.
The “Red / Blue / Green / Yellow / Purple / Cyan” crew colors in older guides are fabricated; the table above is the real roster.
Operation Guns (the Contra crossover, 12)#
Bill Rizer, Lance Bean, Ariana, Lucia Zero, Brad Fang, Sheena Etranzi, Probotector, Stanley, Newt Plissken, Colonel Bahamut, Simondo Belmont, and 12 in total.
The “Soldier / Sniper / Heavy / Scout / Medic / Engineer / Ninja / Boss” class list in older guides is fabricated; this DLC is the Contra crossover and the table above is authoritative.
Ode to Castlevania (96)#
The largest character pack: 96 characters (40 standard + 56 hidden; the English wiki recorded 80 at launch, later updated to 96). Representative characters:
- The eight Belmonts: Leon, Sonia, Trevor, Christopher, Simon, Juste, Richter, Julius
- Alucard, Dracula, Sypha Belnades, Maria Renard, Shanoa, Hector, Eric Lecarde, Soma Cruz, Death, and more
Most hidden-character unlocks here depend on the relic Pile of Secrets.
Other DLCs#
- Legacy of the Bloodmoon (2026-08-28): 12 characters including Malice Bloodmoon, Calogero Bloodmoon, Sargon, Ashtart, Baal’Thasar, and Baal’Thamut.
- Ante Chamber (the Balatro crossover, free): adds the Balatro characters Jimbo, Canio, Chicot, Perkeo, and more.
- Emerald Diorama (free): its roster is not itemized here.
General Character-Pick Logic#
This thinking is based on the verified mechanics above, for opening reference:
- Use the default four while learning: Gennaro’s all-weapons +1 projectile and Imelda’s XP bonus convert to in-run value the fastest.
- Farm kill-count characters incidentally: conditions like Mortaccio’s and O’Sole Meeo’s accumulate across runs — grind high-density stages as you normally play; no dedicated farming needed.
- Heal and gold conditions are single-run jobs: Suor Clerici (1,000 HP healed) and Dommario (5,000 gold in one run) are build questions — bring healing or greed scaling.
- DLC characters: unlock, then buy: complete the condition in the DLC’s stage, then purchase with gold in the character list.
FAQ#
Where do I see a character’s HP and speed?#
Every character shows base stats and passive text in-game. This page only lists verified passive figures (the four starters, Mortaccio, Mask of the Red Death); the remaining characters’ numbers are not collected — the character-select screen is authoritative and this site does not speculate.
What is the character cap?#
The roster grows with versions and DLC: 209 across all DLC as of 1.14, about 221 with Bloodmoon’s 12. If future versions add characters, the in-game list wins.
The code did nothing#
x-x1viiq must be typed directly on the main menu with the keyboard (there is no input box) — typed correctly, it triggers. Smith IV’s flow is “SPAM in three different menus → HUMBUG inside a run”, and the two parts go in different places. Full steps and common failures are on the Secrets page.
