Getting-Started Advice#
| # |
Advice |
Detail |
| 1 |
Don’t rush the dash |
Melinoë’s dash has a short glide — it feels clunky at first, so practice the feel |
| 2 |
Mana management is key |
Mana powers your Omega (strong) attacks — keep it full and ready to burst |
| 3 |
Prioritize collecting Ashes |
Ashes are the main camp-upgrade resource — usable earlier than the first game’s Darkness |
| 4 |
The owl companion unlocks first |
Meet the owl at camp, finish its questline, and it will fetch potions for you in battle |
| 5 |
Unlock card slots first |
Highest-priority upgrade: unlock more tarot card slots — the passive gains are huge |
| 6 |
Don’t be afraid to swap weapons |
The 5 weapons feel completely different — find the one that suits you |
| 7 |
Reach at least one boss per run |
Each stage’s boss drops unique upgrade materials — skipping bosses wastes the run |
| 8 |
The road to Olympus must be unlocked |
Early on only the underworld route is open — a few deaths unlock more regions |

How Weapon Aspects and Divine Boons Interlock#
In Hades 2, weapon choice never stands alone — pairing an aspect with the right Olympian’s boons produces multiplier-level returns. The table below maps the mainstream weapon aspects to recommended boon priorities.
| Weapon aspect |
Core damage plan |
First boon (god) |
Second boon (god) |
Synergy trick |
| Moonshadow Blade · Shadow Strike |
High-frequency backstabs and dodge counters |
Hermes · Swift Step |
Athena · Divine Block |
Use the aspect’s dash-recovery cancel together with Swift Step to push attack speed to the limit; successful blocks counter with a stun |
| Moonshadow Blade · Eclipse |
Charged heavy-hit burst |
Zeus · Thunder Cleave |
Poseidon · Tidal Strike |
The Eclipse charged cleave triggers Thunder Cleave’s chain lightning, and its knockback stacks with Tidal Strike’s knockback damage |
| Evernight Bow · Hunter’s Shadow |
Piercing ranged arrows |
Artemis · Deadly Tracking |
Aphrodite · Kiss of Weakness |
Hunter’s Shadow charged arrows pierce on their own, and Deadly Tracking’s crit bonus doubles when the arrow passes through several enemies |
| Evernight Bow · Twilight |
Scattering arrow rain for crowd control |
Dionysus · Tipsy |
Demeter · Frost Enchant |
Twilight’s fan-shaped scatter pairs with Tipsy’s group drunkenness, while Frost Enchant freezes the drunken enemies |
| Night Spear · Army Breaker |
Thrown boomerang attrition |
Ares · Blade of Vengeance |
Hestia · Flaming Throw |
Army Breaker’s throw leaves a damage zone along its return path; Blade of Vengeance’s orbiting blades plus Flaming Throw’s burning ground form dual-zone pressure |
| Night Spear · Aegis |
Block-and-counter tank |
Athena · Divine Protection |
Zeus · Thunder Retaliation |
Aegis charges while blocking, Divine Protection adds damage reduction, and Thunder Retaliation fires automatically after the block ends — no extra input needed |
Boon Rarity and Upgrade Priority#
Boons are not use-as-found — rarity drives the numbers. The gap between Common, Heroic, and Legendary can exceed threefold in the late game.
- Common boons: transition only. Don’t invest upgrade materials; replace them as soon as possible.
- Heroic boons: keep these for core damage slots. Upgrade order: main attack skill > survival skill > support skill.
- Legendary boons: once one appears, pick it and upgrade it immediately regardless of fit. Legendaries carry an extra passive effect — for example, Zeus’s “Thunderstorm” makes chain lightning bounce two additional times.
- Upgrade priority quick table (assuming limited mid-to-late resources):
| Priority |
What to upgrade |
Why |
| First tier |
Damage lines on your main damage boons |
Directly speeds up kills and shrinks your exposure window |
| Second tier |
Damage-reduction lines tied to dodge/block |
Protects your margin for error at high difficulty |
| Third tier |
Move speed and dash cooldown reduction |
Smooths positioning, which indirectly raises damage output |
| Fourth tier |
Resource-gain lines (gold / magic-stone drops) |
Prioritize only in the early game or when resources run tight |
Practical Combos and Cancels at High Fear#
Once Fear levels climb, enemy HP and aggression rise sharply, and standing still to deal damage stops working. The combos below are combat-tested and apply at Fear 16 and above.
Universal Combo Framework#
- Open with control: use any ranged attack (the bow’s charged shot, the spear’s throw) to tag enemies and trigger boon side effects (drunkenness, freeze).
- Close the gap: dash-cancel your recovery animation to get in their face, and raise your block if you carry Athena boons.
- Core damage loop: cycle “two light attacks > one heavy attack > dash-cancel the heavy’s recovery”, weaving dodges in to avoid red-flash attacks.
- Finisher timing: below 30% HP, use the weapon’s Special (the spear’s spin, the blades’ charged cleave) to trigger the execution animation — you are invulnerable during it and can safely ride out barrages.
Weapon-Specific Cancel Tricks#
- Moonshadow Blades: dash after the third light attack to fully cancel the recovery animation for infinite combos. Watch your stamina, and pair with Hermes’ “stamina recovery” boon.
- Evernight Bow: don’t release a full charge immediately — dodge first, then fire while turning back. The charge is kept and the dodge grants invulnerability, creating a “dodge-shot” playstyle.
- Night Spear: press heavy attack immediately after a throw — the spear folds back mid-air for a second hit while the heavy’s lunge catches the returning spear, forming gapless pressure.
Resource Planning and Room Selection Routes#
From the third region onward, every room reward shapes how fast your build comes together. The route logic below is tuned for high Fear.
| Room type |
Priority |
When to take it |
| Boon room (statue) |
Very high |
With fewer than four boons, fill out your core damage boons first |
| Upgrade room (hammer) |
High |
Two or more Heroic boons but the weapon lags behind — raise the weapon aspect level |
| Magic-stone room (crystal) |
Mid-high |
When you need boon rerolls or shop rares — keep at least 300 magic stones banked |
| Healing room (spring) |
Mid |
Below 40% HP with no recovery items |
| Gold room (money bag) |
Low |
Only when a shop is coming and you lack the money for a Legendary boon |
| Chaos gate (random) |
Depends |
If your build is complete with no gaps, Chaos’s random curse-for-blessing trade pays well; avoid it at low HP |
Shop Strategy#
- Shops in the first three stages: buy only the “boon reroll” item (120 magic stones) — no weapon upgrades.
- The fourth-stage shop: buy the “Legendary boon lock” item (200 magic stones) first, so any Legendary that appears can be taken directly.
- The final-stage shop: pour all remaining magic stones into “max HP up” and “damage reduction” potions, and skip attack items.
