Beginner’s Guide#
Stellar Blade is a combat-first action game, but understanding its systems and resource management matters just as much. This guide teaches you how to progress efficiently, allocate resources wisely, and prepare for high-difficulty bosses from day one.
The Goal#
You play as Eve, dropping from orbit onto an Earth overrun by Naytibas. The goal: cross four regions — Eidos 7, the Wasteland, the Great Desert, and the Spine — defeat the Naytiba leaders, and uncover the truth of Earth’s fall. Each region carries a story boss, side missions, and plenty of collectibles.
Combat Basics#
Core Controls#
| Action | PS5 button | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Light attack | □ | Fast combos — charges Beta energy. Chains up to 4 hits; the fourth launches |
| Heavy attack | △ | Heavy strike — interrupts enemies. Charging adds damage and posture break |
| Dodge | × | Roll with i-frames. A perfect dodge (timed to the hit) triggers bullet time |
| Parry | L1 | Block — a perfect parry (timed to the hit) ripostes for a big stagger |
| Beta skills | R1 + □/△ | Powerful skills costing Beta energy — grant hyper armor. Beta skills interrupt most boss attacks |
| Burst skills | L1 + □/△/×/○ | Ultimate skills costing burst energy — share a cooldown. Equip two of the four |
| Drone | R2 | Ranged shots — harass, posture break, shield break. Infinite ammo but has reloads |
| Lock-on | R3 | Locks the current enemy — keep it on in combat |
Combat Fundamentals#
Stellar Blade’s combat runs on one loop: the enemy attacks → you defend (parry or dodge) → counter → enemy staggers → deal damage → wait for their next attack.
| Principle | Notes |
|---|---|
| Blue can be parried, red must be dodged | The flash color on an attacking enemy dictates your response. Blue = parryable/perfect parry; red = must dodge |
| Perfect parry > regular parry | Perfect parries riposte for a counter window and charge burst energy. Regular parries only negate damage |
| Light attacks charge Beta; defense charges burst | Light hits build Beta energy (for Beta skills); perfect defense/dodges build burst energy (for burst skills) |
| Beta skills have hyper armor | You can’t be interrupted while casting — use them to force your way back into a fight |
The Resource System#
| Resource | Cap | Gained by | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP | Base + core upgrades | Potions, camp rest | Survival. HP cores raise the cap |
| Beta energy | 3 bars default | Light attack hits | Beta skills (high-damage, hyper-armored) |
| Burst energy | 2 bars default | Perfect parries/dodges | Burst skills (ultimates like Timestall) |
| SP (skill points) | Uncapped | Level-ups (1 per level) + region rewards | Learning skills at camp |
Skill Tree Priorities#
SP is limited — unlock these core skills first:
| Skill | Type | Effect | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Counter Pursuit | Parry tree | After a perfect parry, press light attack → chase the enemy | ★★★★★ Unlock first |
| Beta Energy +1 | Beta tree | Beta cap goes 3 → 4 bars | ★★★★★ Max early |
| Beta Combo | Beta tree | After a Beta skill, light attack → bonus damage | ★★★★ Core burst chain |
| Timestall | Burst tree | ||
| Perfect Dodge Pursuit | Dodge tree | After a perfect dodge, light attack → counter | ★★★★ Core of the dodge style |
| HP Core upgrade | Survival | Raises max HP 20% | ★★★★ Survival insurance |
| Potion capacity +1 | Survival | Carry one more potion | ★★★★ Better margins |
Suggested order: 1. Counter Pursuit → 2. Beta Energy cap → 3. Timestall → 4. Beta Combo → 5. Potion capacity → 6. HP cores
Early Progression Route#
| Stage | Goal | Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Eidos 7 | Finish the prologue — learn the basics | Drill perfect parries and perfect dodges — these two skills define your whole combat experience |
| Wasteland | First open region — explore and progress in parallel | Prioritize fast-travel points and grab every visible collectible. Raise Beta cap and potion capacity |
| Great Desert | Second open region — difficulty climbs | Learn at least 2 Beta skills + Timestall before pushing the story. Upgrade gear too |
| Spine | Final region — ready the endgame | Maxed potions, maxed gear, full core skills before you set out |
The Equipment System#
| Slot | Effect | Upgrading |
|---|---|---|
| Exospine | The core gear — defines your build. Early on pick Defense (mitigation) or Speed (attack speed) | |
| Gear cores | Socketed cores raise stats — HP cores, Beta cores, defense cores, etc. | |
| Weapon | Eve’s Blood Edge — upgrades through story; no manual reinforcement | |
| Drone | Ranged attacks — upgrade drone modules at camp |
Upgrade order: Exospine first → socket HP cores next → drone last. The weapon upgrades itself — spend nothing there.
Resource Collection#
| Resource | Used for | Gained by |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Buying items, upgrading gear | Killing enemies, pickups, selling surplus gear |
| Cores | Raising HP/Beta/burst caps | Elite kills, exploration rewards — check every corner |
| SP | Learning skills | 1 per level + region exploration rewards |
| Potions | Healing in combat | Buying, crafting, exploration pickups |
| Bait | The fishing minigame | Buying, exploring — fishing pays SP and cores |
Region Strategies#
Eidos 7#
The prologue region — a linear level you cannot revisit. This is where combat habits form.
| Advice | Notes |
|---|---|
| Loot every room | Cores and potions hide behind doors and in corners — no coming back |
| Practice perfect parries | Use the weak enemies here to drill timing — later regions offer no such sandbox |
| Break every breakable | Cans and collectibles hide behind crates and glass — smash on sight |
| Don’t rush | No timer here; familiarity matters most |
The Wasteland#
The first open region — the shift from linear to open world asks for new habits.
| Advice | Notes |
|---|---|
| Unlock fast travel first | The map is huge; towers cut travel time — activate every signal tower you see |
| Plan day/night | Some collectibles and NPCs only appear at certain times — check the clock on arrival |
| Unlock the Oasis early | It offers a merchant, fishing, and rest — the Wasteland’s hub; go as soon as the story allows |
| Explore when stuck | If a fight is too hard, you may have taken a wrong turn — sweep nearby areas for cores and SP |
The Great Desert#
Bigger, harder, and more complex than the Wasteland — prepare thoroughly before entering.
| Advice | Notes |
|---|---|
| Bring at least 2 Beta skills | Desert enemies have far more HP — one Beta skill won’t cut it |
| Stock potions and gold | Merchants are scarce here; buy 10+ potions before leaving the Wasteland |
| Heatwave countermeasures | Heatwaves drain HP outdoors — head indoors or into shade the moment the weather shifts |
| Don’t get lost in ruins | The ruins are a multi-floor maze — explore rightward from the entrance and memorize your way back on each floor |
The Spine#
The final region — no way back, so all preparation happens before entry.
| Advice | Notes |
|---|---|
| 100% ready before entry | Maxed potions, all cores socketed, skills learned — you cannot return to camp |
| Watch the forks | The Spine branches — one path carries the story, others hide collectibles and rewards |
| The last merchant | One stands before the final boss — your final resupply |
| Steel yourself | The final boss is three phases of escalating extremes — clearing phase one is the beginning, not the end |
Fishing, Explained#
Fishing unlocks at the Oasis — a major source of SP, cores, outfits, and trophies.
Fishing Basics#
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1. Get bait | Buy from merchants — different bait attracts different fish |
| 2. Cast | At the dock, press □ to cast; hold □ to control power |
| 3. Wait for the bite | Watch the bobber — press ○ to hook when it fully submerges |
| 4. Reel | Push the left stick per the on-screen prompts, pressing ○ at the right moments |
| 5. Repeat | Keep casting until you land the target species |

Common Beginner Mistakes#
| Mistake | The right way |
|---|---|
| Only attacking, never defending | The combat rhythm is attack-defense-attack. Blind offense = sudden death. 3-4 hits per window, then reset |
| Ignoring the drone | The drone harasses, breaks shields, and clears mobs — keep it firing in boss fights for a huge DPS bump |
| Not upgrading potions | Camp upgrades raise capacity and effect — the best investment in the game. Max potions restore 60%+ HP each |
| Skipping side quests | Sides grant big SP, cores, and unique outfits — do them whenever the story stalls |
| Ignoring fishing | Fishing pays SP and cores — plus trophies. Spend 5 minutes at each spot you pass |
| Not locking on | Lock-on (R3) stabilizes the camera — vital against agile enemies and bosses |
| Not backstabbing | Attacking a mob from behind = guaranteed crit. Sneak behind patrols → one-hit kills |
| Not upgrading gear | Upgrade the drone and Exospine at every camp — combat pressure drops noticeably. Check upgrade options at each new camp |
| Ignoring camps | Every camp heals and fast-travels — activate all of them for later mobility |
| Wasting gold | Early gold is scarce — potion capacity and bait first. Skip consumables you don’t need |
| Not checking the map | The touchpad opens the map — mark unexplored zones and collectibles. Lost? Map first |
Difficulty Advice#
| Difficulty | Good for |
|---|---|
| Story mode | Story-first players — light combat pressure |
| Normal mode | Recommended for most players — challenging but fair |
| Hard mode | Action-game veterans |
Advice: play normal on the first run → explore and collect everything → switch to hard in NG+. The first playthrough’s real goal is learning the systems and banking resources.
