Best Talismans#
Elden Ring talismans are passive equipment that stays active once worn; they need no activation and add no equipment weight. Every number and location on this page has been cross-checked against three English resource sites (Fextralife, IGN, Fandom). The old version’s many unsourced numbers and wrong locations have been corrected one by one; anything that could not be verified was rewritten as a qualitative note instead of a specific figure.
Equipping and Swapping#
Rest at any Site of Grace and open the menu to swap talismans — no limits, no items consumed. Starting slots are limited; collect talisman pouches as the story progresses to expand them, no grinding needed. Talismans are independent of weapon and armor loadouts, and any talisman follows the same rules regardless of build.
Two Ground Rules for Damage-Reduction Talismans#
Before the specific talismans, commit two page-wide rules to memory:
- PvP reduction: In PvP, damage-reduction talismans are nerfed to roughly one-fifth of their PvE value. A talisman with 10% physical damage reduction provides only about 2% against other players. The design prevents defensive talismans from snowballing into unmanageable survivability in player fights.
- No stacking within a line: When you wear multiple damage-reduction talismans from the same line, only the strongest one counts. Wearing “Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1” and “Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2” together is pointless — the game applies 17% only. But “Dragoncrest Shield Talisman” (physical) and “Pearldrake Talisman” (non-physical) are different categories and can be worn together, each taking effect.
The Dragoncrest Shield Line (Physical Reduction)#
This line is the game’s core physical damage-reduction talisman family, with four tiers:
| Talisman | Physical Reduction (PvE) | After PvP Nerf | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragoncrest Shield Talisman | 10% | 2% | Dragon Barrow in Caelid, at the cliff base below the Bestial Sanctum |
| Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1 | 13% | 3% | Altus Plateau, Sainted Hero’s Grave, behind a Stonesword Key fog gate |
| Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2 | 17% | 4% | Farum Azula, on floating debris between the Dragon Temple Lift and the Dragon Temple Rooftop |
| Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman | 20% | 5% | Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, in a chest inside the large building on the northeast side |
A few notes:
- The base version hides at the cliff base around the Bestial Sanctum. Dragon Barrow is a high-danger zone whose enemies far outlevel normal Caelid, so make the trip once your build has taken shape — but 10% physical reduction is an all-game defensive foundation from the moment you grab it.
- +1 costs a Stonesword Key to open the Sainted Hero’s Grave fog gate — one of the most overlooked graves on the Altus Plateau. Confirm your key count before entering.
- +2 sits between the buildings of Farum Azula; moving from the Dragon Temple Lift to the rooftop, watch for the floating debris underfoot — one fall undoes the whole climb.
- The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman is the family’s pinnacle, hidden in the chest of the large northeast building deep in Elphael — the last defensive upgrade before beating the game, after which it can replace every earlier physical-reduction piece.
The Pearl Drake Line (Non-Physical Reduction)#
First, a correction: Pearldrake Talismans boost non-physical damage reduction (magic, fire, lightning, and holy — the four categories) rather than the old page’s “all-element” claim. The game classifies damage as physical plus these four non-physical types, so the coverage is identical, but “all-element” misleads readers into thinking there are other elemental bonuses.
| Talisman | Non-Physical Reduction (PvE) | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Pearldrake Talisman | 5% | Not listed on this page (the old “Stormveil Castle” claim is unreliable) |
| Pearldrake Talisman +1 | 7% | Not listed on this page (sources disagree widely) |
| Pearldrake Talisman +2 | 9% | Consecrated Snowfield |
- This line’s numbers climb more gently than the Dragoncrest Shield line, but it is highly valuable in areas dense with magic, lightning, and holy attacks — complementary to the Dragoncrest Shield, not a replacement.
- The same one-fifth PvP nerf applies, and wearing multiple pieces of the same line takes only the highest value.
- The old table’s “Pearldrake Talisman +2 in Farum Azula” was wrong — it is actually in the Consecrated Snowfield; “base version in Stormveil Castle” and “+1 near the Erdtree in the capital” were removed as unreliable.
Single-Element Drake Talismans (Qualitative Notes)#
Beyond the combined physical and non-physical lines, there are Drake talismans for single non-physical elements: the Spelldrake Talisman (magic), Flamedrake Talisman (fire), and Haligdrake Talisman (holy), each raising reduction for its element, improving with each upgrade tier.
To be clear: the old page’s “Lightningdrake” and “Deathdrake” talismans do not exist in the game — a mix-up during compilation; the claim that “the Haligdrake Talisman is in the capital’s sewers” is also unreliable. This page lists no numbers or locations for this group; for exact data, consult the in-game compendium.
Popular Talismans at a Glance (Mechanics Only)#
The following talismans are described only by verifiable mechanics — no unsourced numbers or locations:
| Talisman | Mechanics |
|---|---|
| Green Turtle Talisman | Speeds up stamina regeneration. Rolls, blocks, and sprints all burn stamina; faster recovery means more actions — one of the most universal baseline pieces |
| Radagon’s Icon | Shortens cast time for sorceries and incantations and lets you cast while holding a weapon one-handed — great for casters who want a hand free to keep a guard up |
| Godfrey Icon | Boosts charged Ash of War and charged sorcery damage — for builds built around charged heavy attacks |
| Shard of Alexander | Boosts Ash of War damage, tied to Warrior Jar Alexander’s questline — the endgame pick for skill-focused builds |
| Winged Sword Insignia and Millicent’s Prosthesis | Stack attack power with successive attacks; the prosthesis also adds Dexterity — the core combo for fast-weapon builds |
| Lord of Blood’s Exultation | Raises your attack when bleed occurs nearby — the core talisman of bleed builds |
| Scorpion Charm line | Magic, fire, lightning, and holy Scorpion Charms each raise that element’s attack at the cost of taking more damage — high risk, high reward |
| Erdtree’s Favor | Raises max HP, stamina, and max equip load at once — an all-purpose survival piece |
| Radagon and Marika’s Soreseal line | Raises multiple stats at once but also increases damage taken; noticeable at low levels, outclassed by raw stats at high levels |
| Gold and Silver Scarab | Gold boosts runes from defeated enemies, Silver boosts item discovery — one for farming currency, one for farming gear |
| Greatshield Talisman | Boosts shield guard strength, so blocking costs less stamina. Note: it is a completely different item from the “Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman” |
Corrections Against the Old Page#
| Old Claim | Reality |
|---|---|
| Dragoncrest Talisman +1 in the Four Belfries | Wrong. It is in the Sainted Hero’s Grave on the Altus Plateau, behind a Stonesword Key fog gate; the Four Belfries is a portal area in Liurnia, unrelated |
| Dragoncrest Greatshield in a Haligtree secret area or the capital sewers | Wrong. It is in a chest inside the large northeast building of Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree |
| Pearldrake Talisman +2 in Farum Azula | Wrong. It is in the Consecrated Snowfield |
| Pearldrake base in Stormveil, +1 in the capital | Locations unreliable; removed from this page |
| Pearldrake line gives “all-element reduction 7%/9%/13%” | Wrong figures; correct is 5%, 7%, 9% non-physical reduction |
| “Lightningdrake” and “Deathdrake” talismans exist | These two talismans do not exist in the game |
| Green Turtle Talisman “stamina recovery +17%” and similar figures | Unsourced; replaced with mechanics descriptions |
Pairing Ideas (Qualitative Advice)#
- Defense-first: Dragoncrest Greatshield handles physical reduction, Pearldrake Talisman +2 covers the four non-physical types — they complement each other and can be worn together; add the Green Turtle to keep your action tempo, and you have the sturdiest survival combo.
- Offense-first: Shard of Alexander first for Ash of War builds; stack Godfrey Icon for charged playstyles; Radagon’s Icon speeds up casters, and fast-weapon builds pick the combo insignias.
- Risk hedging: Scorpion and Soreseal lines both increase damage taken; if you wear multiple “takes more damage” talismans, offset them with Dragoncrest reduction, or a boss will take you down in one or two swings.
- PvP: once reductions are nerfed to roughly one-fifth, defensive pieces lose value and offensive talismans usually win; full builds are covered in the builds guide, and dueling content in the PvP guide.
FAQ#
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do two damage-reduction talismans stack? | No. Within the same line, only the strongest takes effect; Dragoncrest Shield (physical) and Pearldrake (non-physical) are different categories and can be worn together, each working separately |
| Are Dragoncrest Greatshield and Greatshield the same item? | No. Dragoncrest Greatshield boosts physical reduction (20%); Greatshield Talisman boosts shield guard strength — similar names, completely different functions |
| Should I use damage-reduction talismans in PvP? | After the one-fifth nerf the payoff is limited; unless survival is desperate, offensive talismans are usually better |
| Which ones should I grab early? | The base Dragoncrest Shield Talisman and Green Turtle Talisman are high-value mid-game pickups; when stats fall short, the Soreseal line gives a clear boost at the cost of taking more damage |
| Can talisman slots expand? | Yes. Starting slots are limited; collect talisman pouches as the story progresses — no extra grinding needed |
