Early Route#

Phase 1: The Clinic#

  1. Wake up — You come to in a shabby clinic while a doctor works over you. Don’t panic; this is just the opening cutscene.

  2. Take down your first hound — A hound waits outside the door. This is your first real fight, so use it to practice locking on and dodging.

  3. Pick up everything — Grab every glowing item along the way, including Blood Vials and bullets.

  4. Defeat Father Gascoigne — The first boss, waiting in the graveyard in Central Yharnam. Learning the gun parry is the key here.

Phase 2: Central Yharnam#

  1. Open shortcuts — Prioritize elevators and locked gates; shortcuts save you huge amounts of backtracking.

  2. Stock up on Blood Vials — Collect them in bulk around Central Yharnam; you burn through vials fast early on.

  3. Practice the gun parry — Drill it on ordinary enemies. It is the single most important technique in the game.

Phase 3: Reaching the Hunter’s Dream#

Key Early Tips#

Survival Basics#

  1. Don’t get greedy — Watch what the enemy does after every swing of yours; don’t just keep attacking.

  2. Use the rally system — Strike back right after taking a hit to win some HP back. This is Bloodborne’s signature mechanic.

  3. Open shortcuts first — Shortcuts cut your running time dramatically.

  4. Spend Blood Vials wisely — Vials are limited, so don’t waste them.

  5. Don’t hoard Blood Vials either — They are a finite consumable, so stockpile as many as you can early.

Where to Get Blood Vials#

Source Amount Location
Killing enemies 1-3 All over Yharnam
Buying from the merchant 1 (180 Echoes) Hunter’s Dream
Picking them up 1-3 Glowing spots on the ground
Converting Echoes into vials Proportional Next to the Doll

Combat Fundamentals#

The Attack Cycle#

Read the enemy → Find an opening → Attack → Dodge when needed → Repeat

Gun Parry Basics#

Parry timing Success rate Notes
As the enemy winds up Low Too early
The instant the attack starts High The ideal window
When the attack lands Medium Works but risky

The Rally System#

When an enemy hits you, a portion of the damage stays highlighted in red for a few seconds. Strike back within that window and you recover the HP you lost. That is Bloodborne’s unique “rally” system.

Wrap-Up#

Bloodborne is a game that rewards patience and practice. Don’t fear death — every death is a lesson. Master the gun parry, manage your resources, open shortcuts as you go, and you will slowly take every corner of Yharnam for yourself. Remember: in this nightmare, the Hunt never ends.
