Onimusha: Way of the Sword Characters — The Seven Confirmed Figures#
Onimusha: Way of the Sword stars the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, fighting through a Kyoto warped by miasma in the early Edo period. This page lists the seven characters confirmed by two-way verification against official material and authoritative encyclopedias; the official character page lists many more cast members, but their names and settings fall outside what this site has verified, so they are neither listed nor speculated on here.
1. The protagonist: Miyamoto Musashi#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | Protagonist, a hot-blooded warrior |
| Goal | Comes to Kyoto to reach the peak of the way of the sword |
| Personality | Scorns power borrowed from outside forces |
| Face model | The late film star Toshiro Mifune (consistent across the encyclopedia and the English wiki) |
| Chinese voice | Cao Zhen |
| Japanese voice | Yoshimasa Hosoya |
One defining fact shapes Musashi’s characterization: Capcom used Toshiro Mifune’s likeness as his face model, giving the character the inherited gravitas of Showa-era samurai cinema. In personality he despises borrowed power — yet the plot straps an unremovable Oni Gauntlet onto his arm. That contradiction is the starting point of his entire character arc.
2. The soul in the gauntlet: the Oni Beauty#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | A female oni dwelling in Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet |
| Role | Assists Musashi from within the gauntlet, appearing in person when needed |
| Chinese voice | Li Chanfei |
| Japanese voice | Aya Endo |
The official character trailer published on August 26, 2026 was narrated by Aya Endo — the Oni Beauty’s voice — a measure of how much weight this character carries in the promotion. She is Musashi’s everyday interface to the “power of the oni”: the voice in the gauntlet, the battle support — most of it flows through her.
3. The guide: Ono no Takamura#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | Another “Onimusha,” also bearing an Oni Gauntlet |
| Role | Explains the Onimusha system to Musashi and assigns quests to hunt Genma and rifts |
| Japanese voice | Akihiko Ishizumi |
Ono no Takamura is the explainer of the rules: an Onimusha is a warrior chosen by the oni, duty-bound to guard the gates of the underworld and keep the Genma from escaping. Everything Musashi learns about this system begins with meeting him.
4. The disciple: Izumo no Okuni#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | Ono no Takamura’s disciple |
| Relation to Musashi | Meets Musashi at a temple (confirmed by story material) |
Further details on Izumo no Okuni (background, voice casting, her path in the later story) have not been fully published; not covered, and this site does not speculate.
5. The rival: Sasaki Igan#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | Musashi’s opponent |
| Storyline | Ambushed and killed by Genma while preparing to duel Musashi; revived by an Oni Gauntlet gifted by the White-Robed Figure |
| Fall | Obsessed with the gauntlet’s power, he begins slaughtering humans to harvest souls |
Igan has the most complete arc of any confirmed character in this game: proud swordsman, slain by Genma, then — revived by that same power — sliding into corruption. He and Musashi are mirrors: “the same oni power, opposite paths.” In the demo, Musashi can already duel him — the officially confirmed trial strong enemy.
6. The opening foe: Yoshioka Seiichiro#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | A renowned sword instructor |
| Storyline | Duels Musashi in the opening, his arm crippled; killed in the chaos by an unknown force |
Seiichiro’s death is the detonator of the whole story: Musashi, victorious in the duel, is forced to flee — and because that “private duel” ends with the loser slain by an unknown power, Musashi is pushed into the world of Genma and Onimusha.
7. The hand behind the scenes: the White-Robed Figure#
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Identity | A mysterious entity |
| Storyline | Binds an Oni Gauntlet onto Musashi’s arm in the underworld and sends him back to the living world; later gifts a second gauntlet to Igan |
The White-Robed Figure is currently where the story’s suspense concentrates: why choose Musashi? Why then hand a gauntlet to Igan? The figure’s identity is unannounced, and this site does not speculate.
8. How the characters connect#
Arranged by story relations, the seven confirmed characters form a clear structure:
| Chain | Note |
|---|---|
| Musashi ←duel→ Yoshioka | The opening duel that detonates the plot |
| Musashi ←rivalry→ Igan | Sword rivals → shared death → mirrored opposites after revival |
| Musashi ←gauntlet→ Oni Beauty | Source of power and everyday companion |
| Musashi ←assignments→ Ono no Takamura | Guide to the Onimusha system and quest-giver |
| Ono no Takamura ←master-disciple→ Izumo no Okuni | Their meeting at a Kyoto temple |
| Musashi/Igan ←gauntlet source→ White-Robed Figure | Giver of both gauntlets, the hand behind everything |
9. What this page does not cover#
The official character page presents many more cast members (the publisher promotes “a colorful cast”), but their names and settings are outside what this site has verified, and this page neither lists nor speculates about them. Also not covered: voice cast beyond those listed above, character-specific progression and equipment interactions, and the specifics of character side quests. Rely on official announcements and the game itself.
