Black Myth: Wukong Characters & NPCs Guide#

Protagonist#

The Destined One#

The Destined One is the player-controlled protagonist, a young monkey chosen by fate to track down the six scattered Roots of Sun Wukong. His true identity only gradually comes to light late in the game — he is not simply an heir, but the bearer of Wukong’s will. Across the journey he keeps growing, shedding the skin of an ordinary monkey and becoming a figure capable of shaking the Celestial Court itself.

The Destined One has no official fixed “stat sheet”: the health, mana, stamina, attack, and defense shown on the status screen shift with level, gear, Spirits, and drinks and soaks, so always trust what the game displays. Any “base stats / max-level stats” comparison tables floating around online are fabricated.

His growth path is entirely in the player’s hands. Skill points can be reset for free at any Keeper’s Shrine, which encourages experimenting with different builds at different stages. Early on, put your points into the Smash Stance and the Immobilize spell, then round out your combat kit in the mid-game with the spells and Spirits you have picked up; Transformations unlock step by step with the story, and the final count is whatever the game actually includes.

Wukong’s Legacy#

Sun Wukong#

Sun Wukong never takes the stage as an active character, yet his influence runs through the entire story. The former Great Sage Equaling Heaven vanished without a trace after the journey to the west ended, leaving the six Roots behind as his legacy. His presence keeps resurfacing through echoes, memories, and legends. Wukong stands for rebellion in its purest form — even facing the supreme power of the Celestial Court, he chose to fight.

In the story he plays both hero and villain — a presence the Destined One’s fate simply cannot sidestep.

Black Wind King#

Black Wind King was once an ordinary black bear guai on Black Wind Mountain, corrupted into a mighty yaoguai king under Elder Jinchi’s greed. He guards the first relic — the Eye.
