Character Compendium#
Tekken 8 launched with 32 characters, 3 of them brand new. This page compiles the verified roster, playstyle categories, and character-selection advice. One caveat first: our fact cards don’t include the full itemized list of all 32 launch characters, so below we only list characters verified through existing sources — the complete roster defers to the in-game selection screen and official announcements.
Roster Size#
| Item | Count | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Launch characters | 32 | Official marketing: “32 fighters clash” |
| New at launch | 3 | Reina, Azucena, Victor Chevalier |
| DLC released | 10 (as of 2026-10-09) | 12 announced across three seasons, 2 announced but not yet live |
| Total playable now | 42 | 32 launch + 10 DLC; 44 counting announced-but-unreleased |
The Launch Newcomers#
| Character | Positioning |
|---|---|
| Reina | New to this game; Mishima-style karate with a mysterious tie to the Mishima family |
| Azucena | New to this game; a Peruvian barista with mixed-style fast attacks |
| Victor Chevalier | New to this game; a former French naval admiral fighting with sabers and other weapons |
Full move lists and mechanics for the three newcomers aren’t compiled on this site — defer to in-game tutorials and the move list.
Playstyle Categories#
Tekken 8 characters sort roughly into playstyle groups. The representative characters below are all confirmed in this game’s roster from existing sources:
| Type | Profile | Representatives |
|---|---|---|
| All-rounder | Balanced offense and defense, complete move systems | Jin, Kazuya, Law |
| Pressure | Sustained offense that forces defense | Nina, Hwoarang, Dragunov |
| Counter | Excels at neutral and punishes, waits for mistakes | Bryan, Jack-8, Steve |
| Setplay | Controls tempo with stances and setups | Yoshimitsu, Zafina |
| Grappler | Throws as the core damage source | King |
| Hybrid | Blends multiple styles | Claudio, Leroy |
Note: Armor King is NOT a launch character — he’s Season 2 DLC (live 2025-10-16); Craig Marduk and Lei Wulong are both absent from this game’s roster. Old guides listing them alongside King as grappler representatives are cross-title contamination — corrected here.

A Note on Devil Forms#
Devil Kazuya is not a selectable character: Kazuya’s devil form appears only in story cinematics, not in the 32-person launch roster. Devil Jin IS selectable. Don’t confuse the two.

An Honest Note on Tier Lists#
Character tier lists circulating online swing wildly between season patches — the same character can move two tiers between seasons. Our fact cards don’t include per-season tier data, so this page offers no S/A/B/C table — a tier list without a season version and timestamp only misleads your practice.
If you want strength information anyway:
- Confirm which season version the list is based on and when it was compiled;
- Cross-reference multiple sources — one list isn’t a verdict;
- Remember tiers measure top-level tournament ceilings; the mid-and-low-rank experience can be completely different.
Starter Characters (Editor’s Advice)#
These are editorial onboarding picks, not tier rankings: Paul, King, Jack, Jun, and Victor Chevalier are widely considered easy to learn. What matters more than “meta strength” is comfort — try several candidates in practice mode and main the one that fits your instincts, rather than chasing lists. The full beginner path is in Beginner’s Guide.

Sourcing Note#
Roster information on this page reflects publicly verified material as of October 2026: launch count and newcomer names come from official marketing, the DLC list and dates from publisher announcements. Playstyle descriptions go only to “positioning keywords” level — they don’t pose as complete guides; uncompiled information (per-character moves, stance mechanics, tier data) is flagged as such. Defer to the in-game build and community frame data.
