Dive or Die Guides Week One Recap#

Dive or Die Guides Week One Recap — survival and building draw the most attention

Guide Hub Launch Overview#

DIVE or DIE: Children of Rain launched on PC on July 21, 2026. We put together the complete guide section the moment the game went live, and it has since grown into a full system spanning first-time basics to endgame challenges: a main hub page plus 25 topical subpages in total, each one hands-on content built around a specific mechanic rather than a generic, vague overview.

This week, we concentrated our effort on what new players need most: the controls rundown to read before your first dive, the resource distribution across the underwater maps, and the survival route for staying alive through the opening hours. These are what decide whether a player can “survive the first night,” and they were the direction we prioritized.

What Players Are Focusing On#

Based on traffic patterns since launch, player interest clusters most heavily in two major directions:

Top 3 Guide Pages#

  1. Controls (/en/dive-or-die/controls/) — the basic operations and keybind setups players care about most, covering complete schemes for both keyboard-and-mouse and controller. For a survival horror game that asks you to manage oxygen and fear in real time in dark water, whether your keybinds feel right directly decides whether your inputs keep up with the pace.
  2. Map exploration (/en/dive-or-die/map/) — resource distribution and key-location markers across all regions, helping new players build a sense of direction fast inside the complex cave systems and cutting down on pointless, oxygen-draining exploration.
  3. Beginner’s guide (/en/dive-or-die/beginner/) — opening survival route, resource priority management, and early base building strategy; the first stop for most players entering the game.

Core Demand Areas#

Judging by the distribution of attention, the most frequent player needs fall into two categories:

  • Survival techniques: how to conserve oxygen, where food comes from, how to evade the dangerous creatures of the deep. These directly decide whether every dive ends with you coming back alive.
  • Base building: where to site your base, how to arrange modules, how to set up defensive works. Once survival is assured, players naturally turn to making their foothold sturdier.

These two lines map exactly onto this game’s core gameplay tension: oxygen and fear feed each other, and players must juggle the dive in front of them with running their foothold once they surface.

What Each Section Covers#

Here is a section-by-section rundown of what is in this guide set, so players with different needs can find their lane.

Survival and Oxygen Management#

This is the key to getting started, and the part we built out in the finest detail. The beginner’s guide starts from the most basic oxygen management and builds a first impression of the “fear” resource line: the higher your fear, the faster your oxygen burns — the two feed each other. Players learn to budget their oxygen before a dive, planning which stretch is worth a deep push and which calls for a timely turnaround. The pro tips page goes further, offering advanced survival strategies and concrete oxygen-saving techniques, so even veteran players can push deeper into the dark water.

Bosses and Combat#

The boss guides cover the full run of boss fights from early game to endgame, including the Abyss Guardian, the Abyssal Tentacle, and the Mother of Rain in the final act — breaking each one’s mechanics apart and laying out the counter-timing. The combat system page starts from the fundamentals of underwater combat: how to use your weapons, when to counterattack, and how to use the properties of the underwater environment to avoid damage, so players lose fewer exchanges in head-on fights.

Maps and Exploration#

The map exploration page lays out the overall structure of the underwater caves, both marking each region’s resource distribution and pointing out shortcuts and hidden areas, saving new players the oxygen cost of repeated trial and error. The hidden secrets page focuses on the secret items and hidden dialogue tucked into corners — made for players who like to sweep every inch of the map.

Base and Resources#

Once players can hold their footing in the deep, attention naturally shifts to running the base. Base building covers site selection, module layout, and upgrade paths; the resource overview and resource farming pages give, respectively, the acquisition routes for every resource type and the efficient gathering and farming runs. For players planning long-term, the reincarnation page adds progression thinking under the rebirth mechanic, so every restart carries forward the previous run’s experience.

Current Progress and Direction#

After the first week of polishing, the guide’s backbone is essentially complete. The next focus falls on two directions:

  • Deepening building and survival content: these are the two areas players care about most. We will keep adding advanced base layout thinking and finer-grained survival resource management, covering mid- and late-game operations beyond the opening hours.
  • Tracking patches and multiplayer content: as the game updates, we will add guides for new mechanics and new regions in step, and follow co-op role division in multiplayer mode, keeping the guides aligned with the game’s evolution.

Final Words#

What makes DIVE or DIE: Children of Rain special is the way it twists “oxygen” and “fear” into a single rope: oxygen decides how long you can stay in the deep, and fear, in turn, accelerates the oxygen burn. That mutual constraint makes every dive a tug-of-war between “one more step” and “quit while you’re ahead” — and it is exactly why this kind of game gets its hooks into people.

We built this guide set for one purpose: to help new players take fewer detours — the kind where unfamiliar mechanics cost them their lives for nothing — before their first dive. We will keep polishing the content as the game updates and as real player needs come in.
