DIVE or DIE: Children of Rain Boss Guides#

Complete Boss Guide#

DIVE or DIE: Children of Rain boss fights are some of the most tense and thrilling moments the game has to offer. Each boss embodies a powerful force from the abyss, and mastering their attack patterns and weaknesses is the key to finishing the game. Each entry below covers where to find the boss, how every phase works, and the gear worth bringing.

Important: Boss fights take place underwater, where oxygen drains far faster than normal. Top your oxygen tank up to maximum capacity before every attempt and carry at least two emergency buoys.

Boss 1: Abyss Guardian#

Basic Information#

Location: Third Deep Cavern – Hall of Eternity Depth requirement: 60m or deeper Recommended level: Level 5 or higher HP: about 3000

Background#

The Abyss Guardian descends from an ancient race of protectors that has guarded the entrance to the core of the abyss for generations. It is not evil by nature — its mind has been corrupted by some unknown power deep in the abyss. Before you fight it, you can attempt a purification ritual.

Appearance#

The Abyss Guardian stands about 8 meters tall, its body covered in blue-green carapace bristling with faintly glowing tendrils. Its head resembles a giant octopus, but it has no eyes — it “sees” everything around it by sensing ripples in the water. A rotating bone-white halo circles its body, and that halo is its most lethal weak point.

Attack Patterns#

The Abyss Guardian fights in three phases:

  • Phase 1 (100%-60% HP) *
  1. Tentacle Lash — The Guardian extends several tendrils and sweeps everything within a 5-meter radius. Watch for the tendrils rising, then dodge sideways just before the strike lands.
  2. Halo Burst — The halo suddenly expands outward as a shockwave. The moment you see its rotation speed up, dive down and tuck into a rock crevice.
  3. Sonic Shockwave — A sound wave from its head shakes the whole environment. When the screen starts flickering with ripples, get behind the nearest rock for cover.
  • Phase 2 (60%-30% HP) *
  1. Vortex Creation — It spins its body to spawn small vortexes; surface quickly to escape them.
  2. Carapace Shrapnel — It shatters its own carapace, and the fragments are corrosive — getting hit keeps draining your oxygen.
  3. Terror Shriek — A piercing shriek that sharply raises your fear meter. Use a sedative as soon as you can.
  • Phase 3 (30%-0% HP) *
  1. Reassembly — It pulls the fragments back together into a smaller but faster body.
  2. Abyssal Summon — Small tentacles rise from the ground to assist it; they explode when destroyed.
  3. Final Charge — It hurls itself at the player at full speed; surface immediately and deploy an emergency buoy.

How to Beat It#

Core weakness: the halo on its head. When the halo cracks or stops spinning, that is your best window to attack.

Recommended strategy:

  1. Fight at mid range and never step inside tentacle reach.
  2. Wait for the halo to slow down, then strike its head with ranged weapons.
  3. Use rocks as cover against the Sonic Shockwave and Carapace Shrapnel.
  4. In Phase 2, use an emergency buoy to escape the vortex while attacking the exposed body.
  5. In Phase 3, keep moving and dodge the fast charges by alternating between rising and diving.
  6. If you carry a purification item, use it in Phase 3 to purify the Guardian instead.

Recommended gear:

  • Weapon: diving speargun or high-pressure water jet
  • Armor: wetsuit upgraded at least one tier
  • Consumables: two emergency buoys, one sedative, one repair kit
  • Key item: purification ritual set

Rewards#

Defeating the Abyss Guardian grants:

  • Guardian Carapace Fragment × 10
  • Halo Core × 1
  • Permanent 20% increase to oxygen tank capacity
  • The “Deep Diver” title unlocked

Boss 2: Abyssal Megatentacle#

Basic Information#

Location: Seventh Deep Cavern – Court of Tentacles Depth requirement: 90m or deeper Recommended level: Level 7 or higher HP: about 5000

Background#

The Abyssal Megatentacle is the product of an ancient civilization’s attempt to control the power of the abyss. It began as a single tentacle, but after absorbing too much abyssal energy it evolved into an independent consciousness. It is one of the most challenging bosses in the game.

Attack Patterns#

The Megatentacle fights in three phases:

  • Phase 1 (100%-50% HP) *
  1. Tentacle Sweep — The Megatentacle erupts from the ground and sweeps an 8-meter radius. Watch for the faint tremors in the floor.
  2. Suction Grip — Its suckers generate suction that drags you toward it. Fire your booster or swim away immediately.
  3. Homing Tendrils — Thin tendrils that track your movement. When you spot one, swim in the opposite direction as fast as you can.
  4. Whisper Interference — Low-frequency sound lowers your control responsiveness and raises your fear.
  • Phase 2 (50%-20% HP) *
  1. Tentacle Split — It splits into several smaller tentacles, each with a mind of its own.
  2. Abyssal Spit — It sprays a deep purple fluid that lowers your defense and keeps draining oxygen.
  3. Tentacle Cage — Several tentacles close into a cage that limits your movement. Break out fast before it tightens.
  4. Fear Frenzy — Your fear meter surges toward 100%; you must use a sedative immediately.
  • Phase 3 (20%-0% HP) *
  1. Tentacle Reform — Every tentacle merges back into a Megatentacle twice the original size.
  2. Abyssal Storm — It summons a deep purple storm while tentacles strike at random.
  3. Final Devouring — The giant mouth tries to swallow you. Rush inside the mouth and attack from within.

How to Beat It#

Core weakness: the joint where the mouth connects. During the spit attack, the mouth stays fully exposed for 3 seconds.

Recommended strategy:

  1. In Phase 1, focus on dodging and use the surrounding rocks as cover.
  2. The moment the spit animation starts, rush the mouth joint and start attacking.
  3. In Phase 2, prioritize the darkest-colored tentacle — that is the main body.
  4. Break out of the Tentacle Cage with explosives or the high-pressure water jet.
  5. In Phase 3, look for safe gaps in the storm before committing to an attack.
  6. If you get swallowed, immediately attack from the inside with a melee weapon.

Recommended gear:

  • Weapon: high-pressure water jet is best; explosive torpedoes are second
  • Armor: top-tier wetsuit
  • Consumables: 3 emergency buoys, 2 sedatives, 3 repair kits
  • Key item: deep-sea explosives

Boss 3: Mother of Rain#

Basic Information#

Location: The Final Deep – Temple of Rain Depth requirement: all depths Recommended level: Level 10 or higher (endgame) HP: about 8000

Background#

The Mother of Rain is the oldest being in this cursed world. She was the first child born after the first rain, emerging from the deepest part of the abyss. Her very existence sustains the world’s water cycle. She is not the face of villainy — she is both victim and executor of this disaster, and the final battle is soaked in tragedy.

Appearance#

The Mother of Rain takes the form of a colossal woman made entirely of water. Countless raindrops flow visibly through her body, each wrapped around a tiny soul. Her face is blurred; get close and you can see countless faces drifting beneath the surface. Gray rain clouds hang around her at all times.

Attack Patterns#

The Mother of Rain fights in three phases:

  • Phase 1 (100%-60% HP) *
  1. Rainstorm Descent — She calls down dense rain where every drop is a small impact. Keep moving constantly.
  2. Wall of Water — She raises a 5-meter wall of water and pushes it at you. Find a gap on the side or surface above it.
  3. Soul Shriek — The souls inside her scream in unison, sharply raising fear and blinding you for 3 seconds.
  4. Corrosive Rain — The rain corrodes the ground, dealing continuous corrosion damage wherever it lands.
  • Phase 2 (60%-30% HP) *
  1. Spirit Summon — She summons spirit entities that chase you; they cannot be attacked, so evade them using the environment.
  2. Abyssal Tsunami — A tsunami sweeps the entire arena; surface to the highest point to avoid it.
  3. Relived Memories — She replays memories of death, pushing your fear nearly to maximum.
  4. Cage of Rain — Rain forms a transparent cage that slowly shrinks. Blast your way out with explosives.
  • Phase 3 (30%-0% HP) *
  1. Ultimate Downpour — Her strongest rain attack; the drops harden into sharp water spikes. Find the one safe spot.
  2. Soul Liberation — She releases every soul she holds, flooding the area with hundreds of them.
  3. The Last Tears — Her core is exposed: the final attack window.

How to Beat It#

Core weakness: not her body, but the oldest soul inside her — the last remnant of her humanity.

Recommended strategy:

  1. In Phase 1, focus on finding safe ground and do not try to attack yet.
  2. In Phase 2, burn through your largest stock of sedatives to keep your sanity.
  3. In Phase 3, her core stays exposed for 5 seconds — the only window in which you can deal damage.
  4. The most important strategy: do not attack the core. Use the purification item to purify her instead.

Two Endings#

The final battle can end in two very different ways:

Combat ending The Mother of Rain is defeated and the world begins to collapse; you must race back to the surface. In this ending the world recovers for a time, but the power of the abyss still remains.

Purification ending You choose to purify the Mother of Rain. She sheds one final tear and dissolves. The rain stops and the world begins to heal. This is the true perfect ending.

Recommended gear:

  • Weapon: the best weapons available to you
  • Armor: max-level wetsuit
  • Consumables: every buoy, sedative, and repair kit you can carry
  • Key item: Tear of Purification (must be prepared in advance)

General Boss Fight Tips#

  1. Stay calm — panic burns oxygen and clouds judgment; most deaths come from rushing.
  2. Use the environment — every boss arena has cover and terrain advantages you can exploit.
  3. Manage your consumables — do not burn all your emergency items too early.
  4. Study the patterns — spend the first 30 seconds observing without attacking.
  5. Retreat in time — pull out immediately if oxygen drops below 30% or fear exceeds 75%.

Oxygen and fear are the real timers in every fight — watch both bars, not just the boss.
