Walkthrough#
Genshin Impact is a continuously updated free-to-play open-world action RPG. Unlike traditional single-player games, there is no New Game+ and no true “ending” after the main story. The real progress bar is your Adventure Rank (AR) and World Level, while main quests and world quests keep growing every version — long-term, the goal is developing your characters (levels, talents, weapons, artifacts). This walkthrough therefore covers “how to travel through Teyvat along the main story and progression systems”, not “how to reach an ending”.
Every Adventure Rank level unlocks new systems. When your AR stalls, doing Daily Commissions, spending Original Resin and pushing world quests will steadily earn Adventure EXP. Below is the full growth route from AR 1 to 45, covering the main story, dailies, domains, collectibles and common progression walls in one place.
Progress Overview#
| Phase | Adventure Rank | Core content | Rough duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening | 1-18 | Mondstadt prologue, learn elements and combat, unlock your Wind Glider | 2-4 hours |
| Early game | 18-28 | Liyue Chapter I, Daily Commissions, Adventurer Handbook | 1-2 weeks |
| Mid game | 28-35 | Inazuma Chapter II, Story Quests, Reputation system | 2-3 weeks |
| Advanced | 35-45 | Sumeru Chapter III, start farming talent and weapon materials | 2-4 weeks |
| Turning point | 45 | World Level increase, gold artifacts unlocked, the real grind begins | Ongoing investment |
Whatever stage you reach, spending 15-30 minutes a day clearing Daily Commissions and Resin is enough; push the main story in your spare time and take exploration and story at your own pace.
1. New Player Route: The AR 1-45 Main Story Path#
The main story in Genshin Impact is called the Archon Quest, divided into chapters and acts. Every act has a fixed AR requirement and usually requires the previous act to be finished; some chapters also demand specific world quests or Story Quests first. Pushing the Archon Quest in order is the only way to unlock new nations, new regions and new systems.
Mondstadt (Prologue: The Outlander Who Caught the Wind)#
The Traveler and Paimon meet in Mondstadt, get dragged into the Stormterror Dvalin incident, and befriend the Knights of Favonius. After the prologue you can freely travel between Mondstadt and Liyue.
| Act | Name | AR | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Act I | The Outlander Who Caught the Wind | 1 | Basic controls, Wishes, Wind Glider |
| Act II | For a Tomorrow Without Tears | 10 | Daily Commissions, Expeditions, Reputation prerequisite |
| Act III | Song of the Dragon and Freedom | 18 | Stormterror’s Lair, weekly boss Dvalin |
Liyue (Chapter I: Of the Land Amidst Monoliths)#
The Traveler heads to Liyue for the Rite of Descension, gets caught up in the fall of the Geo Archon, and teams up with Hu Tao of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and others to uncover the truth. This is the longest and most plot-twisting early chapter.
| Act | Name | AR | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Act I | Of the Land Amidst Monoliths | 23 | Liyue main story begins |
| Act II | Farewell, the Archaic Lord | 25 | World Level ascension prerequisite |
| Act III | A New Star Approaches | 28 | Weekly boss Childe |
| Act IV | We Will Be Reunited | 28 | Requires the world quest “Bough Keeper: Dainsleif” first |
Act IV is a prologue-flavored quest from the Traveler’s perspective that involves Khaenri’ah clues; finish it before moving on to Inazuma.
Inazuma (Chapter II: Omnipresence Over Mortals)#
Prerequisites: AR 30 and Chapter I Act IV completed. The Traveler sails to Ritou, and under the thunderstorm lockdown and the Sakoku Decree investigates the Raiden Shogun’s “eternity”.
| Act | Name | AR | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Preface | Autumn Winds, Scarlet Leaves | 30 | Leave Ritou, unlock the Inazuma map |
| Act I | The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia | 30 | Narukami Island exploration, Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual prerequisite |
| Act II | Stillness, the Sublimation of Shadow | 30 | Weekly boss La Signora |
| Act III | Omnipresence Over Mortals | 30 | Weekly boss Raiden Shogun, Enkanomiya-related content |
Sumeru (Chapter III: Through Mists of Smoke and Forests Dark)#
Prerequisites: AR 35 and Chapter II Act IV completed. The Traveler goes deep into rainforest and desert, helping the Dendro Archon Nahida against the Akademiya and the “Balladeer”.
| Act | Name | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Act I | Through Mists of Smoke and Forests Dark | Sumeru rainforest exploration, Four-Leaf Sigils |
| Act II | The Morn a Thousand Roses Brings | Tree of Dreams, Dendroculi content |
| Acts III-V | Like Blinding White Paper… and more | Weekly boss Shouki no Kami |
| Interlude | Back to the rainforest | Apep weekly boss (oasis ruins) |
Fontaine (Chapter IV: Masquerade of the Guilty)#
Prerequisites: AR 40 and Chapter III completed (including Act VI “Caribert”). The Traveler dives into the water nation of Fontaine to investigate the “prophecy” and the truth of the Oceanid, experiencing underwater exploration and diving for the first time.
| Act | Name | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Act I | Prelude of Blancheur and Noirchete | Diving gameplay, underwater areas |
| Acts II-IV | As Light Rain Falls Without Reason and more | Fortress of Meropide, underwater city |
| Act V | Masquerade of the Guilty | Weekly boss All-Devouring Narwhal |
| Act VI | Happy Birthday | Weekly boss The Knave |
Natlan (Chapter V: Incandescent Ode of Resurrection)#
The normal unlock requires finishing Chapter IV and reaching the corresponding Adventure Rank; if you have not pushed into late Fontaine yet, you can also use the Quick Start feature to jump into the Natlan arc early — check the in-game quest list for the exact entry conditions. Natlan revolves around the Pyro Archon Mavuika and the war against the Abyss, introducing Nightsoul’s Blessing, Phlogiston and Saurian companions.
| Act | Name | Key unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Act I | Flowers Resplendent on the Sun-Scorched Sojourn | Natlan region, Saurian companion |
| Acts II-IV | Black Stone Under a White Stone and more | Tribal Reputation, Stadium of the Sacred Flame |
| Act V | Incandescent Ode of Resurrection | Natlan weekly boss |
Nation Unlock Requirements Summary#
| Nation | Chapter | AR | Prerequisite quests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mondstadt | Prologue | 1 | None |
| Liyue | Chapter I | 23 | Prologue Act III |
| Inazuma | Chapter II | 30 | Chapter I Act IV |
| Sumeru | Chapter III | 35 | Chapter II Act IV |
| Fontaine | Chapter IV | 40 | Chapter III main story |

| Snezhnaya | Chapter VI | Not yet open | Watch official announcements |
Stage-by-Stage Advice for New Players#
| Adventure Rank | Priorities | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1-10 | Push the prologue, unlock waypoints, grab free characters | Dump Primogems into the standard banner |
| 10-18 | Do all Daily Commissions, finish prologue Act III | Spend Fragile Resin |
| 18-28 | Liyue main story, Adventurer Handbook, Reputation system | Level every character evenly |
| 28-35 | Inazuma main story, Story Quests, farm talent books | Dump too much Resin into artifact domains |
| 35-45 | Sumeru main story, weapon ascension materials, prep for World Level ups | Pre-farm artifacts (gold only guaranteed after 45) |
| 45+ | Gold artifacts, Spiral Abyss and Imaginarium Theater | Let Fragile Resin pile up unused |
2. Daily Commissions and the Battle Pass#
Daily Commissions#
After prologue Act II, Daily Commissions unlock at around AR 12 (follow the in-game unlock prompt). Four commissions spawn on the map every day; report back to Katheryne of the corresponding nation to claim rewards.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Quest count | 4 per day |
| Primogems | ~10 each, 60 total |
| Adventure EXP | One of the main sources of commission rewards |
| Extras | Companionship EXP, Mora, Battle Pass EXP |
| Story Keys | 1 key per 8 commissions (max 3 stored), used to unlock Story Quests |
Daily Commissions are the most stable Primogem source in the game — clear them every single day.
Battle Pass#
The Battle Pass ( BP ) levels up through quest EXP, caps at level 50 with a weekly EXP cap of 10,000, and settles once per version cycle.
| Tier | Price | Main rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Free BP | 0 | Small amounts of Mora, EXP books, talent books, Primogems |
| Gnostic Hymn | ¥68 | Extra talent books, Mora, Primogems, Fragile Resin; a free 4-star weapon chooser at BP 50 |
| Gnostic Chorus | ¥30 | Unlocks additional reward tiers on top of Gnostic Hymn |
Battle Pass EXP comes from Daily Commissions, Resin spent, weekly bosses, Requests, bounties, forging, cooking, crafting and the current version’s events. Hitting the 10,000 weekly cap happens naturally — no need to grind for it.
Adventurer Handbook#
The Adventurer Handbook in the Paimon menu doubles as a tutorial and catch-up reward screen. It lists guidance quests by nation in chapters; completing each chapter grants Primogems and Fragile Resin. Since version 3.5, finishing each Archon Quest act also grants extra rewards such as Intertwined Fates and Hero’s Wit from the Handbook.
3. Ley Line Blossoms and Domains#
Ley Line Blossoms#
Ley Line Blossoms are glowing flowers that appear on the map from AR 8. Spend 20 Original Resin (or 40 Condensed Resin for double rewards) to claim the loot — the most stable source of EXP books and Mora.
| Blossom type | Output | Cost | Advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blossom of Revelation | Character EXP books | 20 Resin | Farm when short on EXP books |
| Blossom of Wealth | Mora | 20 Resin | Farm when short on Mora |
During the periodic “Ley Line Overflow” event, Ley Line rewards double — prioritize your Resin there.
Artifact Domains#
Before AR 45 (World Level 6), artifact domains do not drop 5-star artifacts, so early Resin should go to talent and weapon materials first; only after 45 should most Resin flow into artifact domains.
| Nation | Artifact domain | Main sets |
|---|---|---|
| Mondstadt | Valley of Remembrance | Blizzard Strayer, Heart of Depth |
| Mondstadt | Midsummer Courtyard | Thundering Fury, Thundersoother |
| Mondstadt | Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula | Crimson Witch of Flames, Lavawalker |
| Liyue | Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula | Retracing Bolide, Emblem of Severed Fate |
| Inazuma | Momiji-Dyed Court | Emblem of Severed Fate, Retracing Bolide |
| Inazuma | Palace in a Pool | Ocean-Hued Clam, Husk of Opulent Dreams |
| Sumeru | Spire of Solitary Enlightenment | Deepwood Memories, Gilded Dreams |
| Fontaine | Denouement of Sin | Golden Troupe, Marechaussee Hunter |
| Natlan | Sanctum of Rainbow Spirits | Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City, Obsidian Codex |
For the location and unlock method of each nation’s artifact domains, refer to the world & exploration guide on this site — not repeated here.
Talent Book Domains#
Talent material domains are split by nation and open different book series on different days from Monday to Sunday; Sunday opens everything.
| Nation | Domain | Talent book series |
|---|---|---|
| Mondstadt | Forsaken Rift | Freedom, Resistance, Ballad |
| Liyue | Hidden Palace of Taishan Mansion | Prosperity, Diligence, Gold |
| Inazuma | Violet Court | Transience, Elegance, Light |
| Sumeru | Steeple of Ignorance | Admonition, Ingenuity, Praxis |
| Fontaine | Pale Forgotten Glory | Equity, Justice, Order |
| Natlan | Blazing Ruins | Contention, Kindling, Conflict |
Weapon Ascension Material Domains#
| Nation | Domain | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mondstadt | Cecilia Garden | Weekly rotating material series |
| Liyue | Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula | Weekly rotating material series |
| Inazuma | Court of Flowing Sands | Weekly rotating material series |
| Sumeru | Tower of Abject Pride | Weekly rotating material series |
| Fontaine | Echoes of the Deep Tides | Weekly rotating material series |
| Natlan | Ancient Watchtower | Weekly rotating material series |
The weapon material rotation table is long — use the “Go to recommended domain” function in the crafting bench to check which series is open today.
Trounce Domains (Weekly Bosses)#
Trounce domains are weekly boss dungeons, the source of rare talent-ascension materials and a must-do every week. The first three claims each week cost half Resin (30 Resin each) — always use up all three discounted claims.
| Weekly boss | Nation | Material series dropped |
|---|---|---|
| Dvalin | Mondstadt | Dvalin series |
| Andrius (Wolf of the North) | Mondstadt | Boreas series |
| Childe | Liyue | Foul Legacy series |
| Azhdaha | Liyue | Dragon Lord series |
| La Signora | Inazuma | Molten series |
| Raiden Shogun | Inazuma | Malefic General series |
| Shouki no Kami | Sumeru | Shouki no Kami series |
| Apep | Sumeru | Oasis series |
| All-Devouring Narwhal | Fontaine | Lightless series |
| The Knave | Fontaine | Fading Candle series |
| Lord of Eroded Primal Fire | Natlan | Eroded series |
Domain Unlocks and Co-op#
- Most domains require a small puzzle before entry (activating elemental monuments with the matching element, defeating guard monsters, etc.); the waypoint opens automatically afterwards.
- Domains support matchmaking co-op with up to four players; under-built players can let a stronger friend carry.
- Weekly bosses, domains and Ley Lines all support Condensed Resin double rewards — craft two Condensed Resins daily at the crafting bench (40 Resin) to keep in reserve.
4. World Quests and Long Questlines#
World quests are side quests triggered in the overworld — there are hundreds of them. A batch of long questline series spans multiple chapters, sometimes requiring real-time waits or main-story progress to unlock. Their rewards are exceptionally generous, and they are the key to hidden areas.
| Questline | Nation | Traits | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Chasm Delvers | Liyue | One of the longest side quests in the game | The Chasm underground mines, Lumenstone system |
| Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual | Inazuma | Five parts, huge Primogem rewards | Sacred Sakura tree EXP, Electrograna mechanic |
| Through the Mists | Inazuma | Requires several real-time days | Full fog removal on Tsurumi Island |
| Aranyaka | Sumeru | Extremely long, many chapters | Rainforest region, Tree of Dreams, Sumeru Reputation |
| Golden Slumber and Dirge of Bilqis | Sumeru | Desert series, back to back | Underground desert ruins, waypoint unlocks |
| Narzissenkreuz quest line | Fontaine | Four parts, story-heavy | Underwater ruins, Fontaine Reputation, special weapon |
| Ancient Colors | Fontaine | Long series | Underwater area exploration unlocks |
| Lost Traveler in the Ashen Realm | Natlan | Four chapters, map-opening quest | Ochkanatlan, hidden teleport waypoints |
| Trail of the Dragon-Chosen | Natlan | Series quest | Saurian companion interactions, tribe rewards |
| Nine Pillars of Peace | Liyue | Mid-length series | 5-star polearm and more |
Recommended order: when you arrive in a new nation, prioritize “map-opening” world quests (the ones that unlock regions and waypoints) before other side quests; save long questlines for weekends or free time, because some chapters are separated by real-time locks.
5. Reputation System#
Reputation is tracked per nation. Once unlocked, visit each nation’s Reputation NPC to take weekly bounties and Requests.
| Nation | Unlock condition | Weekly tasks |
|---|---|---|
| Mondstadt | AR 25 | Bounties, Requests |
| Liyue | AR 25 | Bounties, Requests |
| Inazuma | Chapter II completed | Bounties, Requests |
| Sumeru | Chapter III completed | Bounties, Requests |
| Fontaine | Chapter IV completed | Bounties, Requests |
| Natlan | Chapter V content completed | Tribal reputation quests (slightly different format) |
Each nation allows several bounties and Requests per week, rewarding reputation EXP. Natlan’s reputation is tracked separately per tribe — Children of Echoes, People of the Springs, Scions of the Canopy, Flower-Feather Clan and Masters of the Night-Wind — check the in-game reputation panel for details.
| Reputation level rewards | Notes |
|---|---|
| Treasure Compass | Detects nearby chests; one version per nation’s map |
| Resonance Stone diagrams | Craft at the bench; marks uncollected Oculi |
| Portable Nutrition Bag, Parametric Transformer | Convenience gadgets from Mondstadt and Liyue |
| Wind Glider skins, namecards | Commemorative rewards at max reputation |
The Reputation system is essentially “free EXP on your weekly route” — no need to grind; just finish bounties and Requests alongside your Daily Commissions.
6. Quest Archive and Imaginarium Theater#
Quest Archive#
The in-game Archive panel tracks triggered main quests, world quest progress and related storylines; the Adventurer Handbook provides goal guidance for the current nation. Build the habit of opening the Archive while pushing the main story to check for missed quest series — especially chaptered long questlines — so you don’t lose the thread midway.
Imaginarium Theater#
Imaginarium Theater, introduced in version 4.7 and finalized in 5.0, is a permanent high-difficulty mode — the community just calls it “the Theater”. It runs monthly challenge performances restricted by character elements and a vitality mechanic, and it is the most important monthly Primogem source after the Spiral Abyss.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Unlock condition | AR 35 plus the world quest “A Story Never Told” |
| Refresh cycle | Monthly, around the 1st |
| Entry conditions | Designated elements of the cycle, at least 18 characters, trial characters available for the opening act, borrow 1 friend’s character |
| Difficulty tiers | Easy, Normal, Hard, Visionary (higher tiers unlock after clearing Hard) |
| Vitality | Each character starts with 2 points; clearing an act costs 1 |
| Rewards | Primogems, character level-up materials, namecards, Trail Keys and more for acts cleared |
Each Theater cycle demands different characters and elements. Widen your character roster (instead of building only one team) and use opening trial characters plus a friend’s support character to fill the roster.
7. Levels and Adventure EXP#
Adventure Rank and Adventure EXP#
Adventure Rank is determined by Adventure EXP — the core metric for unlocking systems, quests and World Levels. Main sources of Adventure EXP:
| Source | Notes |
|---|---|
| Daily Commissions | A large stable daily chunk |
| Spending Original Resin | ~5 Adventure EXP per Resin point |
| Archon Quests, Story Quests, world quests | One-time large payouts |
| Opening chests, unlocking Statues and waypoints | Small amounts that add up |
| Adventurer Handbook | Bonus EXP from guidance quests |
World Level and Ascension Quests#
World Level rises automatically with Adventure Rank and directly affects enemy strength and drop quality. At AR 25, 35, 45, 50 and similar breakpoints you must complete an Ascension Quest (defeat a designated boss) to keep raising World Level; if your EXP is full but you haven’t ascended, Adventure EXP overflows while the rank stays locked.
| World Level | Adventure Rank | Traits |
|---|---|---|
| 0-1 | 1-20 | Newbie phase, weak monsters |
| 2-3 | 25-35 | Drops start improving |
| 4-5 | 35-45 | Purple artifacts and materials drop steadily |
| 6 | 45-50 | Artifact domains guarantee gold |
| 7-8 | 50-60 | Best drops, strongest monsters |
If you can’t beat monsters at your current World Level, you can lower World Level by one in settings and raise it back later; but monster strength always tracks your AR — the real fix is leveling characters, talents and artifacts in step.
The Resin System#
| Resin type | Cap | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Original Resin | 160 | Restores 1 point per 8 minutes, ~180 per day |
| Condensed Resin | 5 | Craft 1 from 40 Resin; double rewards for one domain or Ley Line run |
| Fragile Resin | Uncapped | One-time item; save it for farming gold artifacts after level 45 |
Resin planning boils down to “farm what you lack”: boss materials for character ascension, talent books for talents, weapon materials for weapons, and artifact domains after 45.
8. Collectibles Flow#
Oculi#
Oculi are hidden collectibles in each nation’s overworld. Offering them to the Statues of the Seven raises Statue levels, granting max stamina, Primogems and Adventure EXP — the highest-value collectible in the game. When you reach a new nation, collect all Oculi first using Resonance Stones or an interactive map.
| Oculi | Nation | Count (check in game for current totals) |
|---|---|---|
| Anemoculus | Mondstadt | 65 |
| Geoculus | Liyue | 131 |
| Electroculi | Inazuma | 181 |
| Dendroculi | Sumeru | 271 |
| Hydroculi | Fontaine | 271 |
| Pyroculi | Natlan | Check in game for the current count |
Collection tip: unlock all waypoints first, then sweep region by region; once Statue levels rise, use Resonance Stones from the crafting bench to mark the remaining Oculi.
Chests#
Chests come in Common, Exquisite, Precious and Luxurious tiers, mostly from puzzles, mechanisms, time trials and guarded chests — a major source of Primogems and exploration progress. The Reputation reward Treasure Compass detects nearby chests; just open them in passing during daily exploration.
Mechanisms and Exploration Systems#
| Mechanic | First nation | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Seelies | Mondstadt | Guide Seelies back to their courts for chests |
| Elemental Monuments | Mondstadt | Activate by attacking with the matching element |
| Time Trials | Mondstadt | Timed combat or collecting elemental particles |
| Electrograna | Inazuma | Pass through thunder barriers and wards |
| Four-Leaf Sigils | Sumeru | Quick grapple movement on a hotkey |
| Energy orbs | Sumeru | Shoot with a bow to activate mechanisms |
| Xenochromatic abilities | Fontaine | Absorb creature abilities underwater to solve puzzles |
| Phlogiston and Nightsoul mechanisms | Natlan | Refill phlogiston, activate mechanisms with Nightsoul |
When a puzzle stalls you, first check whether your team carries the matching element (Pyro to light torches, Geo to trigger rock mechanisms, etc.) before assuming you missed a quest hint.
9. Common Progression Walls and Fixes#
| Wall | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure Rank stalls | Not enough EXP | Do Daily Commissions, spend Resin, catch up on world quests |
| Rank locked, can’t ascend | Ascension Quest not done | Clear the corresponding ascension boss first |
| Overworld enemies too strong | World Level too high | Drop World Level one step, or raise character levels and talents |
| Time trial fails | Not enough stamina or damage | Raise Statue stamina first, use food, use wind currents to help |
| Quest hint area too large | No clear guidance | Confirm prerequisites in the Handbook and Archive, or use an interactive map |
| Quest needs a specific element | Team lacks that element | Free characters Amber (Pyro) and Kaeya (Cryo) can fill in |
| Quest needs a specific time or days | Long questline mechanic | Some quests require real-time waits — come back the next day as prompted |
| Region sealed by fog or wards | Map-opening quest not done | Finish the corresponding world quest before exploring |
Two extra reminders:
- Broken quest tracking: some quests only update after you “talk” or “inspect” a specific object. Re-click the objective in the quest description or relog to restore guidance.
- Co-op limits: in other players’ worlds you cannot turn in quests, open chests or pick up Oculi, but you can fight weekly bosses and run domains together — bring a friend when you’re short on materials for great efficiency.
Daily and Weekly Routine Template#
| Frequency | Content | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Collect expedition rewards, craft Condensed Resin, clear 4 Daily Commissions and claim rewards | ~15 min |
| Daily | Spend Resin as needed (talent books, ascension materials, Ley Lines) | ~10 min |
| Weekly | Clear the three half-price weekly boss claims | ~20 min |
| Weekly | Bounties and Requests per nation, exchange Resin in the Serenitea Pot | ~15 min |
| Weekly | Top up the Battle Pass to the 10,000 EXP cap | Alongside dailies |
| Monthly | Spiral Abyss refresh, Imaginarium Theater refresh | 30-60 min |
Stick to this template and your Adventure Rank and resources will grow steadily — clear the main story, Story Quests and version events at your own pace.
