Black Myth: Wukong: All Bosses by Difficulty#
Last updated: August 5, 2026
Wukong’s Boss Design Philosophy#
Black Myth: Wukong’s boss system follows a two-tier structure of “commanders” (yaoguai kings) and standard bosses: commanders are the regular elite enemies of the main and side content, while yaoguai kings anchor each chapter’s major set pieces. Game Science leans heavily on input-reading and multi-phase transformations, so the same fight can present entirely different offensive and defensive logic across its phases. Understanding this design serves you better in hard boss fights than memorizing patterns.
Total Boss Count and Tiering Method#
| Item | Data | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Total commanders + yaoguai kings | ~107 | Rock Paper Shotgun’s chapter-by-chapter count: 107; Fextralife Wiki lists 113 (including the prologue boss) |
| Chinese community consensus | 20+ yaoguai kings, 50+ commanders | The prevailing figure on Chinese wikis |
The S- and A-tier lists on this page are the editorial team’s subjective tiering, combining player reputation with hands-on combat experience. Every boss listed is real, triggerable, and present in the game.
S-Tier Boss Deep Dives#
Erlang#
| Element | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Recommended stance | Pillar stance (primary) + Thrust stance (secondary) |
| Recommended spells | Rock Solid · Rock Solid (area) · Life-Saving Strands |
| Recommended Spirit | Shigandang (high-defense Spirit) |
| Recommended vessel | Wind Tamer |
| Phase strategy | Disengage during clone/transformation phases; punish after his lunge recovery |
| Final phase | Enter with all cooldowns ready; don’t get greedy |
Great Sage#
| Element | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Recommended stance | Smash stance (heavy poise damage) |
| Recommended spells | Immobilize · Rock Solid · Pluck of Many |
| Recommended Transformation | Green Dust (high-poise transformation) |
| Key technique | Don’t attack proactively — counter after his recovery frames; when he summons hair clones, keep moving to evade |
| Phase tip | Watch for his Rock Solid area’s in-ring healing effect; prioritize interrupting it |
Venomous Viscount#
Venomous Viscount is one of the most troublesome hidden bosses in Chapter 4. His melee attacks apply poison damage-over-time, and his tail sweep has enormous range and terrifying damage. In phase two he grows even more frenzied, doubling his tail-strike frequency. Critical note: Rock Solid does NOT cure poison — its fire ring is for warming up and resting, restoring your condition inside the ring, building staff momentum, and enhancing drinks; it cannot clear accumulated poison. Counter poison primarily with detox pills, combined with positioning to minimize poison procs.
| Element | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Recommended spells | Immobilize · Rock Solid · Life-Saving Strands |
| Recommended Transformation | Green Dust (high poise) |
| Poison response | Bring detox pills; do not rely on Rock Solid to “cure poison” |
| Key technique | Bait his tail thrust at mid-range; the tail thrust leaves a huge recovery window; restore inside the Rock Solid fire ring |
Little Yellow Dragon#
| Element | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Recommended spells | Rock Solid · Immobilize |
| Recommended Transformation | Green Dust (high poise, lightning-resistant) |
| Key technique | Keep moving to avoid lightning strikes when he takes flight; the landing recovery after each strike is your damage window |
Duskveil#
| Element | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Recommended stance | Thrust stance (ranged poke) · Smash stance (melee) |
| Recommended spells | Immobilize · Rock Solid |
| Key technique | Keep distance and poke with spells in phase one; mind his combo rhythm at close range |
Difficulty Curve by Chapter#
Black Myth: Wukong spans six chapters with ~107 total commanders and yaoguai kings. The intensity curve per chapter is below (no per-chapter counts are given — the developer has not published them, and we do not invent numbers):
| Chapter | Region | Difficulty Curve | Representative Enemies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ch. 1: Black Wind Mountain | Black Wind Mountain | Intro chapter, gentle tutorial pacing | Black Bear Guai |
| Ch. 2: Yellow Wind Ridge | Yellow Wind Ridge | Difficulty rises; spell loadouts start to matter | Yellow Wind Sage |
| Ch. 3: New West | New West | Dragon-type bosses appear; Rock Solid is taught here | Yellowbrow |
| Ch. 4: Webbed Hollow | Webbed Hollow | Rich hidden content, poison-heavy fights | Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, Venomous Viscount |
| Ch. 5: Flaming Mountains | Flaming Mountains | The main story’s intensity peak; the Red Boy (Yaksha King) is the mandatory final elite | Red Boy (Yaksha King) |
| Ch. 6: Mount Huaguo | Mount Huaguo | The closing chapter, fewer but finer fights | Great Sage |
How to unlock Rock Solid: after defeating the Red-Haired Macaque for the second time in Chapter 3 (New West), Elder Jinchi teaches it to you.
Optional vs. Mandatory Bosses#
| Category | Bosses | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mandatory (main story) | Black Bear Guai, Yellow Wind Sage, Yellowbrow, Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, Red Boy (Yaksha King), Great Sage, etc. | Required for completion; the Yaksha King is the Chapter 5 main-story finale, not a hidden boss |
| Optional (side content) | Elder Jinchi, Earth Wolf, Stone Vanguard, Tiger Vanguard, the Sand King and son, Non-White, Violet Spider, Leaping Tidal, Wave Billow, Kang-Jin Loong, etc. | Not required for completion, but grant Spirits and materials |
| Hidden | Erlang, Venomous Viscount, Little Yellow Dragon, Duskveil, Tiger Yin, etc. | Triggered under special conditions; the hardest fights and the best rewards |
Spell System Quick Reference (Official System)#
| Category | Spells | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Mysticism | Immobilize, Rock Solid, Ring of Fire | Immobilize locks enemies in place; Rock Solid draws a fire ring for recovery; Ring of Fire restricts enemy spells |
| Body | Rock Solid (arm), Cloud Step | Rock Solid parries and counters; Cloud Step conceals your form |
| Hair | Life-Saving Strands, Life-Saving Hair | Clone assistance and survival |
| Transformation | Crimson Tide, Green Dust, Black Torrent, Gray Hibernation, White Frost, Dark Abyss, Lotus Hail, Golden Storm, Ebon Thunder, Azure Void | Ten transformation forms in total |
Two commonly confused facts: first, there is NO spell called “Hao Ying Shu” in the game — if a circulating build includes that name, defer to the in-game text; second, “Shigandang” belongs to the Spirits system, not the Transformation system. Spirits and Transformations are two independent progression lines.
Counterplay for the Hardest Bosses#
| Boss | Stance | Spells | Transformation/Spirit | Approach |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erlang | Pillar + Thrust | Rock Solid (arm) · Rock Solid (area) | Shigandang (Spirit) | High defense plus fire-ring recovery |
| Great Sage | Smash | Immobilize · Rock Solid | Green Dust (Transformation) | Counter after recovery frames |
| Venomous Viscount | Smash + Thrust | Immobilize · Rock Solid | Green Dust (Transformation) | Detox pills plus mid-range maneuvering |
| Little Yellow Dragon | Thrust | Immobilize · Rock Solid | Green Dust (Transformation) | Strike in lightning gaps |
| Duskveil | Thrust + Smash | Immobilize | Shigandang (Spirit) | Alternate range and close quarters |
| Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master | Thrust | Immobilize · Rock Solid | — | Break defense with the Weedle Vessel, then go all-out |
| Yellow Wind Sage | Pillar | Immobilize · Rock Solid | Shigandang (Spirit) | Wind Tamer counters the tornado |
| Tiger Yin | Pillar | Immobilize · Rock Solid | Green Dust (Transformation) | Dodge combos and find gaps |
A-Tier Boss Overview#
| Boss | Core Challenge | One-Line Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master | The Weedle Vessel is mandatory; screen-wide eye beams | Get the Weedle Vessel first; use it to break defense when his eyes glow, then unload |
| Yellow Wind Sage | Tornado restricts movement; fast teleport slashes | Wind Tamer dispels the tornado; punish the landing recovery; don’t chase him |
| Yaksha King (Red Boy) | Screen-wide flames, sweeping wide arcs | Keep moving; counter the brief recovery after his whiffs — note he is a Chapter 5 main-story boss, not hidden |
| Azure Back Dragon | Screen-wide thunderstorm, long-range thrusts | Punish the landing after the storm |
| Tiger Yin | Fast combo slashes, permanent poise | Pillar stance dodges combos; punish after the final slash’s recovery; don’t trade blows |
