Set Effect Details#
Pilgrim Set: The Pilgrim Set is the easiest and most practical set to obtain early in the game. The 2-piece effect provides a permanent movement speed bonus, making map exploration more efficient. The 4-piece effect, “running damage boost”, is very useful in boss fights — keep moving during combat and use the running charge to land heavy burst damage. Recommended for all players in Chapters 1 and 2.
Great Sage Set: The Great Sage Set is the strongest non-New Game+ set you can collect; you need to gather the four separate pieces in Chapter 6 and then craft the set at the mountaintop altar. Its 4-piece effect of a guaranteed crit and doubled damage after four Focus stages, combined with crit-build Foundation investment, can produce the highest single-hit damage in the game. Note that this set’s weight is “Ultra Heavy” and will significantly reduce dodge performance.
The Great Sage Set is the strongest non-New Game+ armor in the game. Collect the four pieces scattered across Chapter 6 and then craft the set at the mountaintop altar on Mount Huaguo. The 4-piece effect is that a full four-stage Focus guarantees a critical hit and doubles the damage — combined with a crit-focused staff point allocation, it delivers the highest single-hit damage in the game. Note that “Overweight” significantly reduces dodge performance.

Weapon Upgrade Routes#
Main story route: Willow Wood Staff → Bronze Staff → Black Iron Staff → Dragon Tendon Staff → Ruyi Jingu Bang. This is the recommended story-progression route; materials are obtained smoothly and you will not get stuck for lack of materials. Every stage significantly increases your combat power.
Crit route: Willow Wood Staff → Wind-and-Thunder Staff → Seven-Star Staff → Fire-Tip Spear → Ruyi Jingu Bang. If you are chasing crit damage, prioritize weapons with a high crit rate. The Seven-Star Staff is available as early as Chapter 3 with a 10% crit rate, and pairs extremely well with crit set effects.
Weapon upgrade route: Ruyi Staff → Wind-and-Thunder Staff → Seven-Star Staff → Flame Spear → Jingu Bang. If you are chasing crit damage, choose weapons with a high crit rate. The Seven-Star Staff provides a 10% crit rate as early as Chapter 3, and pairs perfectly with the crit set.

Practical Medicine Combinations#
Burst damage: Blazing Pill + Swiftness Pill. Attack +25% combined with enhanced dodging opens a maximized damage window in boss fights. Recommended when the boss enters phase two.
Blazing Pill plus Swiftwind Pill: a 25% attack increase combined with enhanced dodging creates the largest damage window in boss fights, best used when the boss enters phase two.
Survival strategy: Vajra Pill + Rejuvenation Pill. Defense +30% plus instant healing ensures you will not be one-shot when facing high-damage combos. It is recommended to use the Vajra Pill preemptively against fast-paced bosses.
Gold-Steel Pill plus Revive Pill: a 30% defense increase plus instant healing ensures you will not be one-shot by high-damage combos. Use the Gold-Steel Pill in advance against fast-paced bosses.
Gourd and Wine#
The Gourd is the Destined One’s primary recovery item; it can be upgraded at Shrines with materials to increase its number of uses and recovery amount. Wines are the recovery liquids placed into the Gourd, and different wines provide different recovery effects. Soakable items are additives that can be put into the wine to grant extra bonus effects.

This loadout can deliver the highest burst damage in the game. Core technique: drink first to activate the attack bonus, use the Swiftwind Pill, then roll in and charge a full four-stage Focus before releasing it — the hit is guaranteed to crit and the damage is doubled. Use the Blazing Pill before releasing to make sure the burst lands inside the damage window.

The spell build relies on frequent casting for control and damage. Core loop: lock the boss down with the Immobilize spell → use the Heaven-Reaching Pill to raise max Mana and restore it → unleash a high-damage spell → the cooldown reduction of the Violet Gold Gourd lets you enter the next cycle faster. The Mana refund of the Yin-Yang Set lets you keep casting in combat, best suited to players who like ranged kiting and spell control.

Full Collection Strategy#
Prioritize collecting non-missable items in the first playthrough: those marked “Yes
New Game+ completion plan: New Game+ not only refreshes all chests and pickup items, but also adds a series of exclusive equipment. It is recommended to focus on clearing the game in the first playthrough and to aim for full collection in New Game+. Enemies in New Game+ are stronger, but equipment such as the Equal-to-Heaven Set and the Divine Punishment Staff greatly increases your own power as well.
Material management: Materials that do not respawn (such as Flame Lingzhi, Thunder God Vine, and Ice Crystal Flower) need to be used carefully. It is recommended to prioritize them for crafting four-piece armor sets and upgrading weapons. Beyond what is needed to clear the game, there is no need to craft large quantities of soakable items and medicines — leave those to be completed in New Game+.
