Full Boss-by-Boss Breakdown#

Inkwell Isle One#

The Root Pack#

The Root Pack is the game’s very first boss, with the Carrot, the Potato, and the Onion stepping up one after another on a shared health bar. In phase one the Carrot hangs at the top of the screen and fires straight laser beams from its eyes; the beams travel slowly, so slip under them while it re-aims and close in for damage. In phase two the Potato rolls across the arena trying to crush you while flinging clods of dirt, each marked by a shadow before it lands — read the landing spot, then move. In phase three the Onion sprays tear projectiles from above that splash out to both sides on impact, and the pink tears can be parried to build meter. The Spread at point-blank range is the fastest way through every phase; save your first card of meter for an EX clear during the Potato phase.

Goopy Le Grande#

In phase one Goopy Le Grande leaps in with body slams and spits slime globs that split into two rows of droplets on landing. In phase two he transforms into tombstone form: tombstones crash down with a white-flash warning and stay on the field, steadily shrinking the space you can move in. On Regular, locking into the rhythm of “jump on the flash” keeps you untouched; on Expert the tombstones fall faster, so move into the gaps ahead of time. This stage doubles as a parry tutorial — some of the slime globs are pink, and parrying into an EX move speeds the fight up considerably.

Cagney Carnation#

Cagney opens by summoning a ring of seed minions that burrow into the ground and shoot projectiles up at you. The right approach is to stand in the safe zone directly under the flower head, keep the Spread hammering it, and clear each wave of seed minions the moment it appears. In phase two the flower head spins and flings fan-shaped petals, with the spot directly below still safe; he occasionally fires a pink disc you can parry for meter. Watch your greed — as soon as the flower head starts spinning, back off and return to position before resuming damage.

Inkwell Isle Two#

Ribby and Croaks#

The frog duo hops back and forth in phase one, slapping the ground for shockwaves and spitting out fly projectiles, some of them pink. In phase two the pair merges into a slot-machine form that tosses dice and casino chips from its tiger-mouth opening in random directions — the toughest stretch of the fight, where the Chaser keeps your damage steady. In phase three they become a giant frog head that drops from above and spits water shots. The aerial battle tests your positioning more than your aim, and the Giant Ghost Super Art homes in on its own, making it the most comfortable damage source here.

Captain Brineybeard#

Captain Brineybeard is a sea-monster brawl: the old captain and his giant fish surge up from below while cannonballs and leaping fish press you from both sides. The cannonballs fire from the cannon mount with an orange warning line; the fish leap from the water in predictable arcs. Stay positioned high so you can read where the cannon is pointing before committing to a move, and parry pink cannonballs into EX moves. In phase two tentacles close in from both sides — dash to the center of the screen the moment they appear. This is a long grind, and the Energy Beam Super Art ends it quickly.

Baroness Von Bon Bon#

Baroness Von Bon Bon opens by hurling candy that spawns different minions on landing — a gum brute, a jelly creature, and candy-cane enemies that shoot back. She strafes back and forth on her platform tossing candy projectiles herself, and only her head can be hurt by regular fire. As the phases progress the minions hit harder, so deal with the ranged minions first, then pour everything into her.

Beppi the Clown#

Beppi the Clown is a carnival-themed boss: he rides a carousel in phase one, pilots a roller coaster in phase two, and sends balloons and an ice-cream cart at you in phase three. Every so often he perches on a balloon and bats pink baseballs your way with a bat — prime parry material. The fight is fast with constantly shifting patterns, so learn each vehicle’s tricks on Regular first, then bring the Smoke Bomb to keep mistakes from compounding.

Djimmi the Great#

Djimmi the Great is a genie-themed boss who cycles through illusions of mummies, pharaohs, and bird-beaked fiends in a fixed order — a few runs and you’ll have the sequence memorized. Late in the fight he unleashes dense magic rings that contract as they close in; the safest answer is to find a gap and slip inside it. The projectile density here is among the highest in the game, so the Chaser plus Smoke Bomb pairing is the most dependable loadout.

Inkwell Isle Three#

Phantom Express#

The Phantom Express is the classic multi-car fight, with each train car serving as its own phase. In the first car a conductor ghost hurls dinner plates; in the second, a skeleton blows a saxophone that rolls musical notes across the screen; in the third, a skeleton conductor calls down a ghost locomotive to dive-bomb you while the train accelerates. Walking the train carries a fall risk — dropping off an edge costs health — so watch your footing the whole way. Parrying the music notes to keep your meter full is the key to clearing each car quickly.

Dr. Kahl’s Robot#

This fight makes you break the robot’s head, chest armor, and legs in sequence. The head fires homing lasers and releases small robots; the chest core is immune to regular shots and has to be blasted open with EX moves or Super Arts; the legs shuffle left and right and stomp. The recommended order is to destroy both legs first so the robot collapses, then focus fire on the chest, and finish with the head. The projectile density is extreme — the Smoke Bomb charm is mandatory for this one.

Cala Maria#

The deep-sea mermaid Cala Maria uses her staff to call up water geysers and bubbles in phase one, and some of the bubbles are pink for parries. Phase two’s petrifying beam is the deadliest threat: caught head-on, you turn to stone and plunge toward the sea, and you have to rotate the directional keys quickly to break free. The fight also has a periodic rising-water mechanic — when the water climbs, jump onto a platform immediately. Hold the upper-middle portion of the screen so the petrifying beam’s targeting line stays easy to read.

Sally Stageplay#

Sally Stageplay is framed as a theater production, with the curtain’s rises and falls marking each phase. She tosses props and speech bubbles across the stage, and the bubbles can burst into projectiles or spawn small enemies on landing. In the final phase she takes on an opera-phantom form and releases musical notes that stretch across the whole screen. Patterns reset the instant the curtain switches, and using that window to adjust your position is the key to clearing it.

Werner Werman#

Werner Werman is a rat-themed boss who fights from inside a tin-can tank. In phase one the tank fires screws and flying saw blades, with the screws coming in pink for parries; in phase two he cracks the can open to summon a cat that pounces around the stage. In the latter half the tank gets wrecked and Werner himself starts hurling metal balls. P-Sugar is a top pick here — auto-parrying the screws builds meter steadily and speeds up the clear.

King Dice and The Devil#

King Dice#

The King Dice fight is a run of minibosses capped by the man himself. The board is a track of spaces, each space holding a miniboss, and your dice roll decides how far you advance. The miniboss pool runs from tough picks like the casino bouncers and the cymbal-clapping monkey to easy ones like the three penguins and the pink spinning top. Save your meter for the minibosses and clear them fast with EX moves, then unload your Super Art once King Dice himself shows up. The main fight revolves around reading when he throws dice and playing cards — the cards flood the screen, and your job is to find the gaps and weave through.

The Devil#

The Devil is the final boss, with three phases that keep escalating. In phase one he sits on his throne and lobs fireball patterns, some pink for parries; in phase two he summons ghostly copies of his head to pinch you from both sides; in phase three he turns into a bull-headed form, crashing down from the sky and spitting triple fire columns. The recommended loadout is the Chaser with the Smoke Bomb — open phase three with the Giant Ghost to wipe the screen, then put everything into staying alive. On Expert, attack speed jumps in every phase and the phase-three fire column warning is shorter, so get to the safe spot between two columns early.

DLC Final Boss: Chef Saltbaker#

The Chef Saltbaker fight closes out The Delicious Last Course DLC across five phases. Phase one throws dough balls that burst into smaller dough projectiles; phase two is a knife-and-fork combo with the knife sliding in from the sides and the fork stabbing down from above; phase three opens the oven to spew flames and fling pies; phase four brings out a giant mixing bowl with cream dripping off its rim as projectiles; and phase five has him transform into a giant baked form that pressures the full screen. There’s no shortcut here — run the Twin Heart charm with the Spread and Charge, stock as much meter as you can during the dough phase, and save the Giant Ghost to clear the screen in phase five.
